(IC) Lost In Dreams [Peter]

(Noon seems a bit early for after 20 miles of travel through the jungle...)

(its 10 miles... 5 each way, for 10 miles total). It is tropical forest, but you're on horseback, and have a good idea of where you are going. Noon may be early, but its not far past noon.

When he goes to bed, he will concentrate and try and cast his dream sight back to the circle to see if the demon is still there. (Roll is a fail at 12, is a repeated attempt possible?)

Not running this quite yet, but if you've got luck, it should still be doable. However, the ability is unconscious only "as a result of stress", and that doesn't include intentional actions while dreaming. However, Peter is fortunate and also stressed (or perhaps "worked up"), and he dreams that night. But not of the demon and the circle... unless he tries to change the dream and use luck...

Opps, when you answered my question of how far, I didn't realize you meant round trip.

It doesn't really matter...

"Not really, but I'd like to learn, and it would be nice to have a way to defend myself if something gets too close for the bow."

Peter returns the horses to their places and feeds and grooms them.

Nah, that's okay, what dreams may come, may come.

Peter does what other work is for him and tries to find Anil after, first checking at the fire to see if he took the suggestion of trying to learn some Karana, and then in the usual places he's seen him.

If Anil gets any weapons for Peter, he'll spend some time practicing.

Anil: "You don't? hmm. It was worth checking. We can at least get you a good jungle knife tomorrow."


How does Peter answer the other groom's questions about what Anil was doing?



Anil makes good on his promise to practice Karana, and has a "Knife" for him: Peter's instinct is to call it a machete. Anil is at the fire practicing... though he's struggling somewhat to make more than the smallest creatures, about the size of shrews. "It will be easier at the circle, yes?" Anil laughs nervously.



That night, Peter dreams of four men moving through the jungle in the dark. One of them appears to be Mr. Pundell. Peter isn't sure what they are doing out there.

"It will be easier at the circle, yes?"

"It's sure to be easier to make something happen, but that place could take over and you get what it wants, like what happened before. I'm just hoping your family connection to the place helps."

Does Peter recognize any of them besides Mr. Pundell? Are they unusually armed or equipped? Is there anything that might reveal the location?

They express that he's very lucky to have caught the young man's eye, and caution him not to take his good luck and new association for granted.

Peter doesn't recognize the men, and its very dark... he's not sure that he could recognize them if he saw them again. They're armed as expected, with long arms, and jungle knives. Mr. Pundell has a pistol. The location is equally as mysterious.

They are spending a lot of time looking at the ground, and especially rocks about the size of a clock-face.

Peter will spend some time practicing with the knife and trying not to cut himself in the process.

How long exactly? A few hours? will he stay up especially late in order to practice?

Peter will see if Anil will get him assigned to him indefinitely.
(if you need a reaction or skill roll, feel free to just make it. Diplomacy 14 and his reaction mod is +4.)

To clarify, Anil said he would get him a knife the next day, but then got it for him that same day, is that right? If so, he would have tried to get a feel for it for whatever time it took for Anil to spend all his 'juice' practicing Karana.

I assume they are heading right back out to the site the following day (the same day he got him the knife), so he wouldn't be staying up late. Am I mistaking this, or is Anil waiting for something?

Your sense of timing is correct.

When asking if Anil will take him out permanently, Anil immediately promises to request him every day as long as they are on this endeavor, as long as it won't expose Peter. He informs Jagdees about his intent, which makes the man mummble something under his breath (foreign language).

Anil brings two men with them, each armed with jungle knives and muskets. Anil brings Peter a bow and a jungle knife. Peter is able to get in just a little practice with the weapon, and he gets a tad more instruction from the guards coming with them.

Anil seems very nervous, and he tells the group to make sure not to let anyone else know what they are doing, and then briefs the guards, who nod solemly.

They are still about a half mile from the circle when they hear a familar quasi-human scream.

Peter approaches with his knife in its sheath. He thinks about the creature's behavior thus far...

"When it sees us, try not to look threatening. I think it's looking for an opponent, but if we're nonaggressive, it may let us make it one with the smoke. I think that's what it expects."

They move closer, each with a hand on their weapons. There is another screech, at a slightly different pitch. Then another.

"I saw one!"

One of the two men with a musket points off to the left. "Bright blue skin!"

There is nothing there right now.

"If you're going to take control, I think we need to get you to the fire!"

If they have a tinderbox, or a torch, Peter wants to get something aflame before entering the circle so they can light the fire-pit quickly. Peter then urges the group to the circle.
