That one is basically 'humans with cat ears,' statwise, and anime catfolk rarely seem to have realistic vision anyway. This next one is more divergent (and expensive):

Greater Nekomimi, [158 points]

Attributes

DX+2 [40]

Secondary Characteristics

Per+2 [10]

Advantages

Acute Hearing 2 [4]
Catfall [10]
Clinging (Requires claw-holds -30%) [14]
Combat Reflexes [15]
Discriminatory Smell [15]
Double-Jointed [15]
Night Vision 6 [6]
Parabolic Hearing 2 [8]
Perfect Balance [15]
Sharp Claws [5]
Temperature Tolerance 1 (cold) [1]
Terrain Adaptation (uneven) [5]
Ultrahearing [5]
Voice [10]

Perks

Autotrance. [1]
Penetrating Voice. [1]
Sharp Teeth (fangs). [1]

Features: Catlike ears & eyes; Tail [0].

Disadvantages

Easy to Read (Ears) [-10]
Laziness [-10]

Quirks

No Nudity Taboo. [-1]
Nosy. [-1]
Proud. [-1]

EDIT: I had considered adding Super-Climbing and Super-Jumping, but the cost is already significant.

Nekomimi Question I

Which template should we assume for the Nekomimi (anime/manga catfolk) in this setting? Feel free to add a new template that fits the general concept, especially if the cost is between the extremes offered here.

1. Minimalist Nekomimi, [10 points]

2. Greater Nekomimi, [158 points]

3. Something else (please specify).

Please remember to include the number of your preferred option when you vote.

*******

Answer: There's three voted for 3b, two votes each for 2 and 3a, and one vote for 1.

2, the Greater Nekomimi. There's more cat-like features to roleplay.

#2. It's more catlike.

#1 or #3: 158 points is just utterly excessive

I would suggest Catfall, Clinging, Combat Reflexes, Temperature Tolerance, and Terrain Adaptation as power-ups; this reduces the cost of the template to [113]. Allowing for Super Jump and Super Climb as power-ups would also be appropriate. To encourage them to wear less clothing (which I assume is part of the idea behind Temperature Tolerance), drop their default comfort zone by 10 degrees, for 25F to 80F.

*Racial power-ups are traits that not every member of a race has, but that they can start out with or gain in play without further justification than being a member of said race. You see them a lot in DF, which has built-in niche protections but certain races can sorta break these - I think normally only the Thief (and maybe Monk and/or Ninja) can get Catfall, but even a Knight could have it if they were a member of our Nekomimi race.

3) I still have no idea why Penetrating Voice or Autotrance are on the templates.

Here's something in-between minimal and greater

Trimmed Nekomimi, [18 points]

Advantages

Acute Hearing 2 [4]
Catfall [10]
Flexibility [5]
Night Vision 2 [2]
Parabolic Hearing 1 [4]
Perfect Balance [15]

Perks
Sharp Teeth (fangs). [1]

Features: Catlike ears & eyes; Tail [0].

Disadvantages

Easy to Read (Ears) [-10]
Laziness [-10]

Quirks

No Nudity Taboo. [-1]
Nosy. [-1]
Proud. [-1]

Lens: Neko's got Claws, [+19 points]
It seems unclear as to whether anime type catgirls have claws or not. It could even be retractable, though I wouldn't call that Switchable, as it's probably more obvious than Wolverine. So, Lens:

Sharp Claws [5]
Clinging (Requires claw-holds -30%) [14]

Lens: Drowsing Nekos, [+5/-3/-11/-15 points]
One thing left off the greater neko template is something to reflect the sleep patterns of cats (generally not deep, many short naps throughout the day, seemingly anywhere), and so:

Combat Reflexes (-80% For Waking Up Only) [3]
Deep Sleeper [1]
Rules Exemption (Sleep Schedule) [1]
Sleepy [0/-8/-16/-20]

The Rules Exemption (Sleep Schedule) means that as long as the neko has been getting enough sleep to account for the time they've remained active, they suffer no penalties for missed sleep. For example: Fifi has one level of Sleepy. Thus, for every hour she remains active, she must sleep for 1 hour. Fifi has maxed out her sleeping reserve at 12 hours. She remains active for 3 hours, then takes a nap for 0.5 hours before she is woken. She can now remain perfectly functional 9.5 hours. If Fifi were to remain active for past another 9.5 hours, she would start losing FP for lack of sleep as normal (1 FP when she remains active past 9.5 hours, and another FP for every 3 hours after that). If Fifi wants to recover this FP, she must first refill her sleeping reserve to 12 hours, and then she will recover 1 FP for every hour after that she sleeps.

Lens: Young and Uneducated Nekos, [-13 points]
Cats reach adulthood at 1.5 years, and full size at 2 years. While this is could be a justification for Short Lifespan, I'm going to assume early maturation here (as cats living past 10 isn't totally out there). With such a short period of time to reach adulthood, and no forced education (like THS bioroids), Nekos almost certainly reach adulthood with a stunted or even no formal education. As full grown adults with no life experience, Nekos may be assumed to be incapable of making decisions for themselves and required to have someone vouch on their behalf. Thus:

Early Maturation 4 [0]
Social Stigma (Minor) [-5]
Social Stigma (Uneducated) [-5]
Taboo Trait (Literacy!) [-3]

Even in enlightened societies completely educated Nekos may not be able to buy off all these traits completely, having to take "Mistaken for Uneducated Neko [-1]"

Penetrating Voice could be a male only Perk representing the "singing" of toms while seeking mates.

Autotrance could be "watching a mousehole" sort of concentration ability except that's not what Autotrance does.

Sleepy seems to already include your Sleep Schedule Perk.

The Combat Reflexes thing is bizarre and gives the Nekos the ability to automatically hear things they might miss while awake. I'd rather not go there.

Well, sort of. It still assumes there some kind of sleeping schedule, just one that's defined by the racial template creator. Like, if a particular species stayed up for two weeks straight and then slept for a week straight, that's technically a feature. If they woke up a day early, they'd be two days short of sleep, not just one. The perk just let's the character constantly alter their sleep schedule to fit the times.

I mean my assumption with the "Combat Reflexes is automatically successful" still means you need to detect the disturbance. It's just the IQ roll to wake you is waived. And if it's incredibly obvious, like an alarm siren, then you don't need to make any roll. This to sort of get, "Cats can sleep anywhere and seemingly all the time, but also can wake to anything."

For simplicity, I'm going to call Trimmed Nekomimi 3b, and would like to know which version of 3 ericthered prefers.

That, and the ability of cats in general to make themselves heard when they want to, over other sounds. It seems to be common enough for female cats that I've been around that making it male-only doesn't make sense - and it also seems common among anime catgirls, though I've heard fewer of those than actual cats.

I know I had a reason to include it when I did, but I think I was tired at the time, so I don't quite recall what that reason was. I think it had to do with cats staring at nothing, but that may not be it.
