Part 26: Infrastructure - Mailboxes & Monuments

More boring 19th & 20th century stuff involving obsolete media formats, but handy when heroes get into a gunfight or dabble in mail tampering.

A granite curb & iron pillar-style mailbox makes decent cover in a TL5-6 urban firefight. Participants in TL6-7 U.S. street violence can crouch behind a collection box. Replacing mailboxes at TL8 are private courier drop boxes. Just the thing for spies to tamper with. Any non-residential mailbox will be fixed in place by 4+ serious bolts (DR 2-3, HP 3 @, ST 15-20 to shift).

Baseball bat-wielding vandals can maul innocent residential mailboxes. They're mounted on a 4"x4" softwood pillar or a 3" iron pipe.

Stone monuments are a feature of any late 19th to 21st century park or village square/green, particularly in the decades following a major war. They can stand in as medieval pilgrimage crosses, Ancient Roman mile markers, or small menhirs.

Historical plaques are an early 20th century notion. They make good cover in addition to being educational.

For when the bad guys interrupt that anonymous meet-up with your informant, the purse snatcher bolts through the crowded plaza, or the crazed sniper starts picking targets. The low-tech stone stuff also makes good DF infrastructure.

Sort of obsessive here. Blame it on some massive online catalogs which made it incredibly easy to GURPSify the raw data.

Part 30: Playground of Peril

Scary, obsolete, 20th century playground equipment which sent generations of children to the hospital, along with their kid-safe, tort lawyer-repelling 21st century descendants.

In addition to exerting an irresistible attraction on certain DC Comics supervillains, a playground of blatantly unsafe rides is the perfect environment for Parkour experts to show off and for action heroes to creatively surprise & demise the bad guys. Raise the stakes by adding an unforgiving concrete surface.

No stats with these, but plenty of opportunity for PCs to creatively use DX, ST, & Acrobatics, Jumping, and Running skills and take falling damage if they screw up.

Part 31: Infrastructure - Ancient & Victorian Plumbing

Stats for copper, iron, & lead pipes & 19th century "sanitary conveniences."

Assume a length of pipe braced at each end can support pounds equal to (weight per yard x 2) before it bends & perhaps (weight per yard x 4) before it fails. Reduce this by ~20% for pipes braced on just one end, like flag poles. Actual numbers depend on material, wall thickness, diameter, & distance between supports.

Old-style plumbing is mainly interesting as cover DR. A well-made claw-foot bathtub will easily stop small caliber pistol bullets and shrapnel. For outdoor firefights, a cast-iron drinking fountain serves just as well. Better yet, find a fire hydrant; it will stop rifle bullets.

Old-style toilet tanks hold 2-4 gallons of water. Sinks & toilet bowls will hold about 1-2 gallons.

Schedule 40 is typical pipe used in light duty or residential settings. Schedule 80 is heavy duty pipe used in commercial settings. Large diameter pipes are rated as "Standard" (STD) or "Extra Heavy" (XHY) based on wall thickness.

Assume that wall-mounted bathroom fixtures are held in place by 4+ bolts (DR 2-3, HP 1-3 each, effective ST 10-15 to resist being pulled up). Floor-mounted fixtures will be held in place by 2 or 4 heavier bolts (DR 2-3, HP 2-3 each, effective ST 12-20 to resist being pulled up).
