Default Occupations on a Deep Beyond Space Station

I am working on an adventure setting, and could use some brainstorming help if folks are interested.

The starting location for the adventure is to be an isolated space station focused on scientific work, with lots of field science expeditions.

I need some ideas for lowly/non-adventurous jobs on the station. I’m trying to not include any jobs that the Station’s SAI would likely just run (e.g., no janitor/custodian, because the SAI would likely just direct the cleaning bots) but having someone capable of doing critical functions incase the Station SAI has a problem (e.g., electrical maintenance) are okay.

My starting list:
  • Pharmer/Botanist (helps feed the station)
  • Research Assistant/Archivist (helps record the scientist’s findings)
  • He-Man (helps operate the stations power plant, backup to Station SAI)
  • IT Field Tech (helps fix gear)
  • Maintenance Worker (Electrician/Mechanic for station systems, backup to Station SAI’s LAI/NAI bots)
  • Space Craft Mechanic (does maintenance on station’s space craft)
  • Medic/Physician’s Assistant (handles normal medical procedures on the station, not field work)
  • Miner (runs mining bots to feed the stations 3D printers)
  • Taylor (3D print operator specializing in customizing clothing)
  • Equipment Designer (customizes 3D printer files to fabricate specially equipment)
  • Cook/Chef at station cafeteria (has bot assistants)
  • Counselor/Psychiatrist
  • School Principal (helps establish curriculum for baomubots – informorphs teaching children)

Any additions?

Any of these jobs especially well suited for a Ghost, versus a biological or SAI?

Data analyst. AI (and even NAIs or LAIs) wil work through masses of simple data faster than any human of course but their are levels of data complexity where differing human and AI analysis techniques could be synergistic.

Also, each is a check on the other. The AIs catch the human's math errors but the humans catch where the AIs didn't recognize garbage going in or garbage coming out.

Life support tech -- (mostly) closed life support systems are notoriously fiddly, especially the biological ones, but not something you want to see fail when the SAI goes into safe mode.

Security -- if the station's research is not highly classified (and it doesn't sound that way), this will be more about breaking up resource squabbles among the researchers before they escalate than repelling waves of Space Ninjas (tm).

Shipping/receiving/stockroom clerk -- primarily works with the suppliers and researchers as a "face" to order what the station needs, but also tracks down that one critical component that was mislabeled and stored with the CO2 scrubbers.

How about an Entertainer/Moral Engineer? Someone to liven up the place and make it fun/pleasant? Given the psychological sophistication of the setting, it would make sense.

The oldest profession in physical or virtual form is certain to be out there.

The job description would likely be sexual surrogate.

I really believe that confusing sex surrogates with prostitutes is going to anger a lot of surrogates in reality. So don't do it.

I know that the two jobs are different. I'm just saying they will mislabel the job.

I'm pretty sure if they're repressed enough to use a euphemism, they're going to use one that actually disguises the job description. Possibly something long and soulless, like "Personal Entertainment Consultant"

Which will lead to euphemisms: "I was engaged in some PECing when ..."
