Power Investiture for Ninjas of Nyarlathotep
A secret order of assassins whose origins lie in Feudal Japan, whose serve Nyarlathotep in exchange for spells and wisdom.
I decided that to the prerequisites to gain this Power Investiture would be Trained by a Master, as well as Dark Knowledge. To better model Call of Cthulhu, I have created: Dark Knowledge(MetaTrait Skill, [6 per level, IQ-1]) functions as a Hidden Lore (Great Old Ones) as well as being the Ritual Magic skill for spells discovered in mythos books; each rank also conveys an additional level of Fearfulness without maximum. The GM awards Dark Knowledge for the study of sanity-blasting, mythos books. Nyarlathotep's ninjas only function at night, and the Power Investiture carries the Night Only, limitation on any spells or abilities granted. It costs 6/level to a maximum of 3. PI 1: Tanglefoot (M38), Haste (M142), Weaken Blood (M40), Total Paralysis (M40), Sound (M171), Silence (M171), Stun (M37), Panic (M134), Affect Spirits (M151), Skull Spirit (M151), Blackout (M112) PI 2: Wither Limb (M40), Deathtouch (M41), Blink (M148), Decapitation (M42), Agonize (M40), Mind Search (M46), Seek Gate (M85), Scry Gate (M85), Permanent Madness (M139), Nightmare (M140), Summon Demon (M155), PI 3: Control Gate (M85), Create Gate (M85), Great Geas (M141) Available Abilities: Night Vision [1/level] (B71) up to 9. Re: Power Investiture for Ninjas of Nyarlathotep
I'm surprised they don't have a version of Blind Fighting.

If they only function at night, how about Night-Adapted Vision x9 [0]..? That would let them ignore darkness penalties up to -9, but give them a -9 to function in normal lighting.

The silence advantage limited to night only, making it harder to hear them at night.

While Night Vision [1/Level] is also totally valid for this, I was focused on the "only" in "only function at night," suggesting Night-Adapted Vision [0/Level], a Feature that effectively blinds them in bright light presented in 4e Fantasy, DF 3: The Next Level, and probably elsewhere.

Re: Power Investiture for Ninjas of Nyarlathotep
I know nobody said "lets talk lenses" but since ninja have a few already I was thinking we could tailor some weird gifts and mutations to specific ninja roles, heres one example:
Sen no kao no jisha (Thousand-Faced Acolyte according to google) While the ninja may or may not be aware of Nyarlathotep's true nature or form it seems pretty logical that a god that's constantly taking on new faces in-lore granting power to a type of assassin that specializes in infiltration and deception would be able to grant a measure of that power. Spells like Illusion Disguise or Shapeshifting would work but so would advantages like Elastic Skin with Fickle, Glamour, Preparation Required and Requires a Ritual magic roll. Their cinematic skill could be body control, in addition to or instead of blind fighting. |
