Default Re: Magical Realms of the Marvel Universe

Magic Realms

Magic in the Marvel Universe can be broken down into various Realms, using the Realm Magic rules in Thaumatology (pp. THM188-192). These Realms sometimes overlap, particularly as some of the more limited Realms deal with aspects of others with a broader scope. These Realms are built on the six-tier approach from p. THM189.

Sorcerers, such as Doctor Strange and his order, deal with six main Realms: Mind, Space, Time, Spirit, Energy, and Matter. These six Realms make up the cornerstones of the Multiverse, and dedicated practitioners can learn up to the fifth tier in those Realms. Lesser mystics often focus on narrower Realms. For instance, Gypsy magic, as practiced by Wanda Maximoff, relies on the Illusion, Luck, and Transformation Realms. Nature-oriented mages often use the Nature Realm, or learn distinct Animal, Earth, Fire, Plant, and Weather Realms. Most of these practitioners only achieve the third tier, with a select few achieving the fourth or fifth. A magician's maximum potential level in any Realm is dictated by his Magery level.

In all cases, the sixth tier of a Realm is off-limits to all corporeal beings. Even such beings as the Olympian, Asgardian, and Heliopolitan gods are unable to achieve the sixth tier in any Realm and remain corporeal (see Asgardians). In essence, any being who achieves the sixth tier in a Realm automatically becomes the living embodiment of that Realm, and becomes a truly Cosmic being.

Realms Used In This Net.Book

Energy: This far-reaching Realm includes all types of energy, including but not limited to cold, electricity, heat/fire, kinetic, light, radiation, and vibration.
Illusion: This Realm deals primarily with creating and dispelling illusions.
Luck: Also called Probability, this Realm deals with manipulating probabilities in order to alter circumstances to make the improbable probable.
Matter: This Realm deals with altering and creating matter in all forms. A sorcerer's own scientific knowledge does affect the Realm's use.
Mind: This far-reaching Realm deals with all aspects of intelligence and conscious thought, as well as subconscious desires.
Spirit: This Realm deals with all aspects related to a being's soul or spirit. It can also be used to deal with spiritual entities of all levels.
Space: This Realm affects such things as movement and inertia, permitting such wide effects as levitation, telekinesis, teleportation, flight, and even dimensional travel. Combined with Mind, it permits clairsentience.
Time: This Realm affects both the passage of time, including the ability to travel backwards in time, as well as precognition and psychometry.
Transformation: This Realm allows the magician to alter matter on a macroscopic scale, such as turning people into toads or giving them multiple limbs.

As advantages, the Realms of Energy, Matter, Mind, Spirit, Space, and Time are all 20 points per level. Illusion, Luck, and Transformation (as well as any other Realm I can think of later) are 10 points per level.

So.... Comments? Suggestions? Criticisms? Critiques? ... Flames?

EDIT: Revised much later.

Sounds fine.
I would add Life, Death, Chaos and Order based on the Cosmic entities.
And add Words of Power for some effects.
A lot of incantations can be just special effect but still some might merit more.

So, thoughts, comments, suggestions, criticisms, critiques (flames?) as to how I worked this power set? This is my first attempt at using the Realm magic in a character. I'm probably going to do Clea next. (Her Energy realm will probably be around level 5, due to her Faltine heritage, and I was thinking of aspecting a level or two of her Magery with One Realm Only to reflect this. What would be a good price for that?)

One thing I noticed was that the point value lowered by about two hundred points from where he was, and I don't think he lost any utility.

Looks pretty good! Realm Magic lets you get rid of some of the effects you had modeled with advantages in the earlier write-up. I still think you should consider Unfazeable, though, especially if you’re not going to bump up his innate mental resistances any further.

Batman (and Superman or other DC Comics characters, for that matter) will not be making an appearance in this Marvel Comics Reboot project of mine, for the mere fact that, as Hannes665 has said, he exists in not only a completely separate universe, but a completely separate multiverse (with the exception of Earth-Crossover, or Earth-313 as I like to call it).

Rest assured, if I was to do a DCU project, Bats would be at the top of my list, alongside the classic JLA lineup.

I am suddenly reminded of John Byrne's wonderful Batman & Captain America...
