You can conduct rituals to make it harder, but nothing is foolproof.

"Cursing someone with vertigo will certainly draw hate. But that's why the witch was tortured to death. The gilding of the skull was a warning to others. I suppose it didn't work on me. I considered gilding his skull for an ironic pair, but I don't make art, I just collect it."

They will conduct whatever rituals they were able to identify as potentially effective periodically.

This will give you a chance to resist enemy curses and divinations. This is best performed once a day. A +2 bonus is given to the roll if stay in an area you can ward.

I have found out a great deal about his palace defenses, and I have been searching for the fates of the witches and magicians who accompanied his rise to power. finding their graves will allow us to interrogate their memory. Or, if they were burned, knowing that and their name and history should provide a similar effect."

"Maybe he simply doesn't accept that we don't want anything but Bel dead and gone. We could probably make up a thing that we want and we could make a even trade, or maybe we could convince him would just want Bel dead."
