You're right that the maximum load for an ST 24 horse (a riding horse, say) is 288 lbs (ITL 66). A ST30 draft or war horse could carry 480lbs, at MA -12. That would slow the draft horse to MA 10 (ouch) and the war horse to MA 12.

(Here, I'm assuming that the Reptile Man isn't empty-handed. At 300lbs exactly, these ST 30 horses would be MA -10 instead of MA -12.)

I guess I'd have to agree. A reptile man would have serious issues on a horse, even if the horse tolerated his reptilian fearsomeness.

ITL says that reptile men often domesticate Uncle Teeth as a mount, but this would require Driver skill, not Horsemanship.

Henry, where are you getting your weight for Reptile Men? It's a large one hex figure, just like a gargoyle, and the gargoyle weighs 300lbs, but I don't know that means the Reptile Man weighs the same as a duck gargoyle.

I'm not saying 300lbs is unreasonable for a 7ft. tall, heavily built humanoid lizard. I've only known a couple of those and not well enough to inquire about weight. I'm just wondering if there's some explicit source for saying they weigh 300lbs.

(Back in 2015, there was a 7' tall, 440lb high school football player, so 300lbs doesn't sound crazy for a solidly built lizard.)

It's interesting Henry brought this up... I have actually made this an explicit trait of reptile-men in my game, namely that they create 'fight or flight' reactions in most mammals and are thus prohibited from riding horses or training non-reptilian beasts.

It does say 300 pounds or more (ITL 66 left column) so it could easily be around 400 pounds.

I must be blind or looking in the wrong place. Where does it say that?

I'm using the latest PDF for ITL.

Thanks.

ITL 66 lists large 1-hex figures as averaging 300 lb.

Well...I'm only 5'9" tall. At one time, about 19 years ago, I weighed over 330 lbs. I have a stocky frame that allows me to carry far more weight than I should. So, a 300 lb. One hex character is very possible.

I don't think there's any doubt about the plausibility of a 300lb one hex character. My question was just whether RAW explicitly stated that Reptile Men weighed that much, because I couldn't find it.

Shostak provided the reference I was missing.
