Accoring to ISW [page 171], in order to properly make a jump FOUR successful skill checks are REQUIRED:

1. Navigation (Space) - to locate the desired jump point
2. Piloting - to maneuver the ship to the jump point
3. Navigation (Hyperspace) - to plot the desired course through jumpspace
4. Mechanic (Jump Drive) - to activate the jumpdrive and make sure that it oerates within necessary parameters.

Therefore, we must ensure that one or more crewmembers have all four of the above skills, preferably at a level which will give a substantial probability of success. This is NOT the way that I remember jumpdrives in GDW Traveller working, or even in GURPS Traveller 2nd Edition for that matter, but it is quite cool, I think.

I strongly recommend that EVERYONE read the Jump Operations section of ISW on p. 171. I'll try to remember to post the relevant info sometime.

Dr. Zübeyde Chevalier technically is not a Terran, but a Martian, since she grew up as a spaceport brat on Phobos High Port, an old space station from the prejump period of Terran colonialism. Being born in 2143, the Third Interstellar War and the bombing of Terra is just a vague childhood memory. Her parents, scientist and and muslims of a modern and liberal denomination, ensured that their bright and talented daughter got the very best in education. Then during a terraforming project on Mars, her parents drank in an artificial Mare, leaving her uneasy around water and letting her turn to faith. Before studying life sciences, dabbling in a few other related subjects, including forensic medicine on Luna and finally graduating in medicine, she served her year in the navy, but not without afterthought. She is insatiably curious about the universe and the lifeforms it holds. The way to see them is the Merchant Marine. Having a powerful knack with people, she is accustomed in getting what she wants.

She is young, curious, talented, but lacking practical experience, open minded, unprejudiced, even against the Imperium, slightly gullibile, faithful and she will convert you, sooner or later.

Zübeyde is a very slim, petite person, giving away her spacer origins, of a mixed origin with african, middle eastern and european roots. She looks pretty and comes across very outgoing and open minded. She usually wears at least one eye-catching piece of clothing or accessoir that hints at an arabian or muslim background.

I never understood why it is Mechanic (Jump Drive), though. Mechanic is usually a skill to repair or maintain. Skills to operate are Piloting or Electronics Operations ...

Agreed, I suppose. I just posted what ISW says. Do I hear a Motion for a Houserule to countermand said requirements?

So that's all of our officers named, statted-out, and added to the PC Roster on page one of this thread, now we just need the Chiefs! Or at least their names, I guess. When we begin, the TSS Hiawatha is just completing a single day of all-too-brief shore leave on 2027 Prometheus/Sol and headed out first to 2227 Ember/Sol to deliver the payload they now carry, and then on a long and circuitious route to 2222 Ninkhur Sagga to deliver much-needed medical supplies and vaccines which they will be taking on at Ember.

Concerning the crew roster and such (like cargo list, ship's specs, etc...) I was thinking we (and by that I do suggest "I") could set up a wikispace to host all that information. It's real easy to use, edit, etc... And we wouldn't have to navigate through a bunch of different threads and such.

I'm willing to start, build and maintain it.
What do you all think?

Oh, as the ship´s doctor, I have purchased one level of general status, for being a doctor, but what about rank ? Do I need some rank ?

I agree! I had thought the same thing, actually, but hadn't mentioned it yet. I'm also a subscriber to wikispaces.com. May I presume that you would invite the rest of us to join the wiki? Or is this to be a players only venture with GMs excluded on pain of death? ;-)
