Re: [SUPERS] My Unofficial Handbook to the DC Universe
Okay, I haven't made up my mind about grappling hooks yet, so feel free to continue to comment on that issue.
But, for the time being I'd like to get back to the fun part: making and posting characters. I've got a few ready to go this morning.

Re: [SUPERS] My Unofficial Handbook to the DC Universe
Hero: Batwoman
Alias:Katherine "Kate" Kane Affliations: Independent Haunted by the deaths of her mother and twin sister in childhood, the most important thing in Kate Kane's life was military service--until she was expelled from the Army Rangers under "Don't Ask, Don't Tell." She returned home to find that her father (a retired army Colonel himself) had married billionaire weapon's manufacturing heiress Catherine Hamilton. Suddenly rich beyond belief and robbed of her life's purpose, Kate fell into the life to a party-girl/celebutante. One night after leaving a night-club she witnessed (and helped) Batman stopping an armed assault on a young woman. She realized on that day that there was a way she could continue to serve. She enlisted her father to arm her for her new life as a costumed crime fighter. While she has Batman's respect and (unasked for) permission, Kate Kane is not a member of the Bat-Family. Apart from the few times she's partnered with The Question (her ex-girlfriend Renee Montoya), Kate prefers to rely on herself. Quote:

Re: [SUPERS] My Unofficial Handbook to the DC Universe
Villain Group: The Villains of Gotham City
Many blame Batman himself for the fact that Gotham has so many colorful and insane criminals. Whether that's the case or not, the city's corrupt police force, porous asylum, and chaotic underworld serves as a perfect breeding ground for psychotic villains. The Villains of Gotham City are not an organized group--the operate together only rarely and only when it's mutually beneficial to all parties. Membership:Joker, Harley Quinn, Penguin, Scarecrow, Poison-Ivy, Two-Face, Mr. Freeze, Mad Hatter, Hugo Strange, The Falcone family, The Maroni family, Rupert Thorne's gang, Victor Zsasz, Man-Bat, The Ventriloquist, Black Mask, Killer Croc, Hush, Firefly, Killer Moth, Clayface. Notable Related Villains Not Based in Gotham City: Bane, Ra's Al Ghul, The League of Assassins, Lady Shiva, David Cain, Deadshot, Catman. Note:If Batman's Enemy (Rogues Gallery) comes up during an adventure, simply select randomly from either of the above lists.

Re: [SUPERS] My Unofficial Handbook to the DC Universe
Villain: The Joker
Alias: Red-Hood Allies and Affiliations: Villains of Gotham City, Harley Quinn Whatever you've heard about the origins of The Joker is probably a lie. Nobody knows what his name was or from where he came. It's probable that he was the villain known as Red-Hood who apparently died just before The Joker's first crime-spree, but that's mere speculation. What is known is that The Joker is one of Batman's most persistent, dangerous, and unpredictable enemies. He is completely insane, guided almost entirely by a twisted sense of fun, and may often act against his own interests just to keep things lively. Don't let his bad puns and clownish antics fool you, though, he is completely without morality and will thoughtlessly commit acts of mass murder on a whim. Quote:

Re: [SUPERS] My Unofficial Handbook to the DC Universe
Anti-Villain: Harley Quinn
Alias: Harleen Quinzel Allies and Affiliations: The Joker, Poison Ivy, Catwoman, Gotham City Sirens, Suicide Squad Harleen Quinzel was a promising young psychiatrist when she started her residency at Arkham Asylum. Unfortunately she was also a little naive. When she began counseling sessions with The Joker, he roped her in with (probably) invented stories of an abusive childhood and a wish to become a better man. Gradually he twisted her mind and manipulated her until she fell madly in love with him, helping him escape and taking on the role as his side-kick. She completely subsumed her own sense of self-worth and identity, embracing The Joker's sense of humor, violent tendencies, and goals. Harley's relationship with The Joker is abusive--he doesn't love her back, is probably incapable of real love, and often mistreats and uses her. Sometimes, when she gets fed up with this treatment she runs away to her only friends: Poison Ivy and Catwoman--both of whom counsel her to leave the Joker for ever. She always goes back. Although she looks dainty and a bit silly in her costume, Harley Quinn is actually The Joker's muscle. She's a gifted gymnast and surprisingly scrappy--quite dangerous, especially to those who underestimate her. Quote:

Re: [SUPERS] My Unofficial Handbook to the DC Universe
It was revealed in the New52 (which touched Batman's and Green Lantern's books the least, at least initially) that Bette (Flamebird) Kane is Kate Kane's niece. Not sure if she can count on her niece as an Ally prior to the Flashpoint storyline, though.
A few typos or common misspellings to correct (e.g. it should be "probable" instead of "probably" in Joker's entry, and "quite dangerous" instead of "quiet dangerous" in Harley's), but other than that I can see nothing really wrong with these. Good job! I especially like the Joker's build. Captures his psychosis perfectly. The only thing I don't really agree with is him being Unattractive. Maybe it's that he has a few levels of Charisma, but those who don't tremble in terror from him (mostly because of "OMGWTFBBQ IT'S THE JOKER!!!!" than his looks) react to him as being Attractive, and artists don't go out of their way to make him look unattractive.

Thanks!!

You make a good point though. I tend to think of The Joker as more deformed than he is, thanks to the cinematic portrayals. I may split the difference and just give him average appearance.

Re: [SUPERS] My Unofficial Handbook to the DC Universe
Villain: Two-Face
Alias: Harvey Dent Allies and Affiliations: None. Harvey Dent was a true American success story. He was raised in one of the the most dangerous slums in Gotham, surrounded by drugs and violent crime. Yet, he worked hard, studied hard, graduated at the top of his class from University of Gotham Law School (with financial help from the Thomas and Martha Wayne memorial scholarship fund). Despite his prospects, Dent dedicated himself to the public good--working his way up through the prosecutor's office to become Gotham's District Attorney. While in office he befriended both Police Commissioner Gordan and prominent local businessman Bruce Wayne. But his quest to rid the city of organized crime made him more enemies than friends. One of those enemies, local mobster "Boss" Maroni, threw a cup of acid on Harvey Dent--covering half his face in hideous scarring. The trauma of this episode caused a major psychotic break in Dent. When he recovered from his injuries, he found himself unable to make any decisions without flipping a coin. The first set of unfortunate coin flips led him to become the very thing he spent his career fighting against. Two-Face is at war with himself, torn between the desire to do good and the anger that drives him to kill and cause suffering. Harvey uses a two-headed coin (one side of which is scratched and deformed) to determine which side will win out in any given decision. Quote:

Given how Charisma is explained in GURPS, is there an Enhancement to reflect someone intentionally interacting in a manner to agitate the other party?

Re: [SUPERS] My Unofficial Handbook to the DC Universe
Villain: Poison Ivy
Alias: Pamela Isley Allies and Affiliations:Harley Quinn, Catwoman, Villains of Gotham City, Gotham City Sirens. While working as a post-doctorate fellow in botony at University of Gotham, Dr. Pamela Isley agreed to participate in an experiment run by Dr. Jason Woodroe. Woodroe lied to her about the nature of the experiment, which was horrifically painful. These experiments altered her body on a cellular level and activated her Meta-Gene. She's now dangerously unstable, and having been betrayed by a man she admires, hates all men. She'd just as soon return the world to how it was before humanity spoiled it's natural beauty, in fact she's tried to do just that on several occasions. Poison Ivy's body is toxic, while she herself is immune to all toxins. She can alter the nature and effect of her bodies toxins at will, with almost limitless options from paralysis, to euphoria, to death. She can also exude pheromones that allow her to control men's minds. Furthermore, she can control nearby plants, causing them to grow and move, and often to grab and entangle her enemies. She's easily one of Batman's most powerful adversaries. Quote:
A GM may decide that Poison Ivy is inadvertently tapping into The Green. In that case, change her power modifier from Super (Meta-Gene) (-10) to Elemental (-5). I'm not crazy about how the GCA Export function presents her powers, so I may try to reorganize them later. Basically she has 4 powers: Unique Physiology: Doesn't Eat and Drink DR Immune to Poison and Disease Create Toxins and Drugs within her body: Modular Ability: (Afflictions) Alternative Ability: Toxic Attack Alternative Ability: Mind Control (Contact Agent) Control Plants: Control (Plants) Alternate Power: Binding Alternate Power: Telekinesis with animation. Pheromones Appearance (V. Beautiful becomes Transcendent w/ Scent-Based) Mind Contol (Emotion Control with men only.)
