Default Hearing Protection in GURPS TL: 8

Hello Folks,
Just out of curiosity, how would you stat out ear plug protection that acts as an amplifier for hearing?

The device in question has a cut-off level when sound reaches a given level in decibels (for safety reasons such as a jet passing overhead, or gunshots or what have you). So it acts in effect, as hearing protection while amplifying sounds during the more quiet of moments.

For definitions of its effects, see the advantages Protected Sense, and Acute Senses. If it's equipment that's readily available for money, you wouldn't normally charge character points for it.

That sounds like they've mastered earplugs that provide some form of Protected Hearing without making you Hard of Hearing.

The "normal" situation for earplugs like the wax/cotton ones or silicone ones or what hav eyou is that they provide some level of bonus to resist hearing damage while providing some level of hearing penalty. Usually these two seem pretty linked.

Default Hearing Protection in GURPS TL: 8; protection/amplification

Apparently there are already devices to amplify small sounds and then protect against loud ones.

See "Pro Ears Camo Pro 300 Hearing Protection and Amplification Ear Muffs", as an example, available from Sears for roughly $400, tax included.

add in bluetooth capabilities to a phone or radio and this will be AWESOME for working with heavy machinery (airports, construction, mining, etc.). Heck living in a noisy city, this improves quality of life a bit.

You can already get ear defenders with walky-talky capability or FM radio, although I'm not sure if they are active or not.
