*shrugging* What's so strange about it? I knew a girl in college who was a die-hard Champions gamer and had done a centerfold layout for a soft-core porn magazine... and when I was later stationed in California, there were a couple of girls with whom I regularly gamed (one AD&D and the other GURPS) who were exotic dancers.

This is some kind of suprising to me, I thought of gaming of something of a nearly exclusive white color middle class thingy. Seems the opening sequence of Watchman is right, the Times are changing.

And which colour and social class do you assume people in the porn business
have?

I've been on the Internet long enough to know that the correct answer is "all of them" to both questions ;)

But for people who don't personally know anyone actually in the industry, it's a natural assumption that since it's a poorly-regarded industry, everyone in it must be there because they're not good at anything else. There's also the second misconception, spread by some activists, that everyone in the industry is there because they've been forced into it, either with threats or by drug addiction. I'm not quite sure how folks reconcile the two ideas personally, they seem mutually exclusive to me.

While there may be folks there that do conform to either stereotype, neither is universal. I think the only generalization you can make for the on-screen performers is that they're not self conscious about their bodies.

Exactly. Which raised the question "Why wouldn't you expect to find people in the porn business doing 'white middle class things'?"

Things "changed" at least 10 years ago or more. The media or press haven't quite caught up to the truth of that - although some are better than others.

These days there are likely more people who have tried or played D&D than who haven't tried it.

Trust me.

I work at a game store - for the past 6 and half years I 've seen plenty of browsers and customers that break the cliche images that the old pop culture and press have of gamers.

We're missing the real question here. How do we convert them to GURPS?

Well, this has sparked a memory. Some years ago I was in a FLGS looking through an issue of Knights of the Dinner Table. The "letters" section had a letter from a woman who said she was a porn actress who played RPGs. She complained about the other players making lewd comments because of her line of work.

Don't want to derail the thread too much, but this reminded me of something Ron Gilbert (Creator of Monkey Island and Maniac Mansion) said at the PAX '09 keynote.

Paraphrased:

"Back in the 80's it seemed that gamers had their own language nobody else could understand; Wheras nowadays my 5 year old daughter fully understands what 'hit points' are."

Now I've got an image in my head: If you have porn actors playing D&D, do you get big arguments about how things work in the real world and how the rules are wrong, only instead of being about weapons or armor…

(I haven't actually watched the videos that started this thread, sorry.)
