That's always a roll to hit, is it not? How do you apply Power Grappling to Judo Throw?

(Sir Michael Carragher, ST 20 and DX 14, really wants to know ;)

Throws from locks don't count, as those can be done with Wrestling as well and aren't actually the Technique Judo Throw.

You can judo throw "offensively" by first grappling someone. I don't think you can do the same with wrestling, but I'm not looking in my books right now, so I could be wrong.

After a grab you can do it offensively using a Quick Contest. So once you grab someone, you can use a ST-based Judo roll to throw them.

Judo is the only skill that can employ Judo Throw without invoking special perks like "Judo Throw defaults to Wrestling," which as a GM I'd have to ponder very, very hard. There are situations where something like this would be OK, but JT and defense vs. weapons are the very soul of why you get Judo rather than Wrestling. Well, and Sweep, but there's a way around that.

Just to check I understand this correctly, for my ST25 DX18 judo -22 'supernormal' character with arm lock+4 and feint(judo) +4.

Without power grappling:
Feint 26
Arm lock 26
Judo throw 22

With power grappling:
Feint 33
Arm lock 33
Judo throw 29

Are those stats correct?

The stats are correct, in that your +7 bonus of ST over DX hits your skill levels.

However (saw that coming, didn't you?) these stats only apply when you can reasonably apply ST instead of DX.

As an example, I would not allow you to make a ST-based roll to make a Feint prior to establishing a grapple (though after a grapple, I probably would allow it; it's effectively a Beat, and ST-based feints make a lot of sense to me in a grappling situation). I would not allow a ST-based roll to actually establish a grapple. I would definitely allow a ST-based roll following an offensive grapple to do a judo throw (contest of skills) but I would have to think about it before I'd allow a ST-based roll to throw someone as an attack roll after a Judo Parry. I MIGHT allow that one, since you needed to make a DX-based Judo Parry roll to be in a position to execute.

Some of this is RAW - I just don't have my books open and I have to run, so no time to look.

But . . . in those positions where you can apply your ST to a grappled foe? Yeah, he's in real trouble.
