Default [RPM] Invisibility to Only Certain Things

Ok, using the following as a starting point:

Invisibility
Spell Effects: Greater Destroy Energy
Inherent Modifiers: None
Greater Effects: 1 (x3)

This ritual turns the subject invisible and all that he is carrying at the time of the casting, as long as the total weight is less than 300 lbs., for 10 minutes.

Typical Casting: Greater Destroy Energy [5] + Subject Weight: 300 lbs. [3] + Duration: 10 minutes [1]
Cost: 27 energy (9x3)

How would someone go about limiting this to specific targets? An Accessibility modifier? In Basic, p. 63 for Invisibility under Special Enhancements it suggests a +50% for Affects Machines. Would you apply this enhancement to the cost of the whole ritual. What if you wanted to make the target invisible to the Undead (any being with the Unliving Trait)? What about animals (any being with an IQ less than 6)?

Any ideas?

I do not believe that would work, as you would need Altered Trait (Invisibility), which would be either a Greater Transform Body or Greater Transform Mind, so the cost would be 120 energy higher (you really do need to pay for bonuses provided by RPM, either through Altered Trait or through Bestow Bonus, and Invisibility gives a +9 bonus to Stealth). You could add Accessibility to reduce the cost of the Altered Trait though.

Altered Traits is only required if the subject is gaining the ability to turn invisible at will for the duration, nut not if the caster is simply rendering the subject invisible and the subject has no power over it.

Adding modifiers to spells is tricky. It can be done, but it can produce uneven results when done. I would say it's just a Lesser effect. Full invisibility from whatever should be a Greater effect, lesser invisibility or chameleon like effects for up to say, +5 to Stealth rolls should be, well, lesser. It's a common enough thing in fiction and pop culture and this is how I treated it in my campaigns. One PC had a spell that made them invisible to their parents only in a campaign letting them sneak out of the house.

You normally cannot turn off Invisibility though.

That's only for using the advantage-based version. A spell can be canceled by simply willing it so.

I'm guessing the "destroy energy" as applied to a machine might be to delete whatever electronic data it is picking up? Perhaps the machine equivalent of charm based "don't notice me" invisibility on people so that you may be seen but not detected or noticed?

So, a tangential question: What would be the RAW way of casting Invisibility on multiple targets? Just add enough Subject Weight to account for everybody?

You'll need Area of Effect and Subject Weight for the heaviest target you want to affect.

Wow! Thanks for the fast reply. So just the heaviest target and not the sum total weight? That could make the ritual much more powerful than I thought. I better spring it on my players before they spring it on me.
