Default [Low-Tech]What are the stats for Light Leather?

I'm looking for cost and weight for light leather armor. It's not on the table on LT110. The text says to treat it like Furs. Furs are not on the table either but the text says to treat it like winter clothing. Winter clothing has:
Cost: 30% of cost of living
Weight: 5 lbs.

Is Light Leather armor (and Furs for that matter) priced based on one's cost of living?

Furthermore, winter clothing says it covers everything. Since everything comes out to about 300% of cost in the table, would Light Leather for the torso cost 10% of cost of living and weigh 5/3 lbs?

It seems a bit complicated. What am I missing?

Thanks.

Light Leather as Low-Tech defines it isn't stand-alone armor at all.

It says it's "Not often worn as standalone armor".

How often it was used in real life (let alone in my campaign) is not really relevant to my question, IMHO.

But thanks for responding.

Edit: I see what you're getting at though. Maybe "not often" was meant to imply that no one would (or should) bother getting it as piecemeal armor. But it turns out, my players do want it as such.

I'm not sure what your question is then. That is the reason it's not on the table, AFAICT. It is clothing; not armor and GURPS abstracts clothing as part of CoL. If you want to buy just a leather jerkin by itself (as opposed to part of an outfit) there really aren't any rules for it.

Huh.

Well, it's in the armor section of the book and the text therein suggests that it is sometimes worn as such. It just seems like it would have an entry in the armor table.

But I suppose the authors didn't see it that way. It's OK with me. I just thought it was strange and maybe I was missing something.

Thanks again.

I think that's just to tell you that you can claim DR1 vs cutting for fur or leather clothing.

All they need to do then, is specify that they are wearing leather garments (cap, doublets, jerkins, hose, what-have-you) as part of the free outfit that all GURPS characters are assumed to start with. Note though that such garments are uncomfortable in hot weather and should have the same effects on FP as real armor.

It was stuck in the armor sections because gamers have been trained to think that all leather is armor, so that's where they're going to look for it. But then the text tries to dispel that mindset by stating that, while some people wore it as armor, it's really no better than furs, and for game purposes, it's clothing, not armor.

Nope, because it isn't armor any more than a parka is. "Armor-quality" leather begins at medium.

Well, there kinda are rules for it... in the "custom ballistic armor pieces" section in Ultra-Tech.

But those rules depend on what a full suit (torso, limbs, neck, head, excepting the eyes, hands, and feet) of light leather costs. If we have an answer to that - or to any form of leather, for that matter - we can figure out what a piece that covers certain sections should cost.

Just a thought.

We know what a full suit of clothes costs. It's just based on status.

We do have armor table values for armor quality leather.
