Default after action report: JIGG Tokyo Kanda May 5, 2019

A bit of a double report since due to the big block of Japanese holidays, the gaming group met today and last Sunday as well.

Last Sunday was one new player, V from Brazil. She took the Mk III side. I managed to take out missiles early on but my infantry couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. Took a long time to get treads down to M1 and by that time she only had AP guns but all I had was 1 Infantry and 1 GEV and she was just 2 hexes away from my CP.

Today was J from the US, a long term Japan resident. I took the Mk III and played an unusual defense with 2 MHWZ, 2 MSL and a bunch of light tanks and he set up everything behind the top gray line all bunched together with the CP in the NE corner. I came up the West forcing him to chase me then dodged east so most of his force couldn't keep up. This worked well. He did manage to take out my missiles and my primary with the MHWZs but never focused enough on treads. I had full movement and most of his force was left but he threw in the towel when I was obviously 2 turns from his CP.

J seems really into it, I showed him the blue maps and playmats and he agreed to try next time. He's also heard of The Fantasy Trip and has a gaming table at his place. Looks like I've found someone to enjoy some SJG with!

Sounds like fun games.

Can't wait to get the O2 neoprene mat, or even just a pdf of O1[!], so I can play classic scenarios with the minis.

You do realize, Cat, that you can use the program OgreMap 2 to re-create the original orange Ogre map that you can either print off on copy paper and piece together or take it to a print shop and have them print it off on paper. All of this in the 6th Edition scale.

Note that the program was written (and the artwork sized) for the Ogre Y2K (i.e. 5th edition) scale, so when it blows up to 6th Edition scale it looks a little blurry. I wouldn't print it on anything but paper because of that.

But at least you'd be able to use your miniatures until a proper pdf is released.

Thanks, TomC, once again for that wonderful program.

Jeez, that sucks.

I'm not a Mac guy, but isn't there a Windoze emulator for the Mac that would allow you to run it?

I should get off my duff, make a (admittedly inferior to the real thing) copy of the original orange map in 6th edition scale, and send you the file. Do you prefer png, gif, jpg, or bmp format?

Cat is right unfortunately. Because our house is also 100% Apple hardware I went through this same struggle when I was making the map for the Defend the Negev scenario for Ogrezine II. OgreMap2 will sometimes run under WINE (windows emulator) but for some reason it won't print correctly. The solution I ended up with was buying a used/slightly damaged Windows 8 table/netbook thing for $80 rather than waste any more time debugging WINE.

Thank you for the very kind offer, but for the forseeable future I'll still be busy making and testing scenarios for the neoprene mats.

And maybe our pleas will finally be heard by the powers that be to release an actual O1 pdf! Or, hope of hopes, a neoprene Kickstarter version.
