Default [Basic] Skills: Flying Leap Base Attribute

Anyone have any insight on Flying Leap being based on IQ instead of DX?

Flying Leap doesn't have a default.

Quite true. Sorry, been thinking though the "By Default" article by Douglas Cole from Pyramid #65. Correcting my original post to reflect that it is about the base attribute.

(Edit Notes: Apparently, editing the subject of the first post does not edit the title of the thread.)

it's part of the cimmatic Chi skill set, I'm more supersized it not Will based like Power Blow rather than concerned it not DX based.

That's a good point. Shifting it to Will would actually satisfy my concerns more than shifting it to DX would...

What you are looking for is the "Attribute Substitution" Perk

Attribute Substitution: Flying Leap Based on Foo [1]

If I was a player making this choice, absolutely. As it is this is going to be GM fiat its just a change in how I'm choosing to implement the skill. But in the RAW that would be the solution, yes.

It's one of a number of things that are in the categories they are because that's the way they were first defined for in 3e, often before the alternatives that make more sense existed in the rules - in this case there wasn't an explicit category for Will based skills (they listed and priced as Mental whether they were based on IQ or Will).

Doing it again now from scratch, I might well argue it shouldn't be a skill based on anything, but a kind of cinematic Extra Effort.

Not to derail the topic but... what about making it Health based? Maybe its just me and my inadequate knowledge on the subject, but it just seems like chi based skills would be a matter of health (being properly conditioned plus breathing correctly) than even Will... though Will is certainly more dramatic for Determinator characters.

Chi effect are typically described forcing your will to alter body.
hence the mundane skills are DX and HT depending on which they are but the Chi skill is will.
