I don't know enough about slings to really say either way. I suspect that slings already are unrealistically good (just like all muscle powered weapons in GURPS). This doesn't make them significantly less realistic, I don't think.

I'd say not very realistic, the crazy swing damage of slings is because you put all your strength in the throw. It's like asking what is the bonus in jumping if you really mean to jump through the pit.

Also, if you want realism, remember tactical shooting that says: Ranged attacks when aimed are All Out Attack(Determined): +1 Skill.

So, in the best of the best case, you can do an All-Out-Attack with your staff sling for damage, but then you can't benefit from your aiming bonus.
