Default Alternate me says: Buy this week's Pyramid (Pyramid #3/34 - Alternate GURPS)

Well, it has already appeared in my "my Library" section of the e23 website, though it's not yet available for download.

EDIT (19:40): The page for this issue of Pyramid is already up, and you can check the article titles and blurbs.
EDIT (19:50): It's out!

Having the same problem. But luckily, I'm at work, so I can't read it anyway. :-)

The variant Spaceships system looks excellent - buildings, water-based ships, and possibly more. Want.

I'm not fond of Spaceships (I don't have the PDFs, but I have the version in Vorkosigan), but if this allows for non-climate controlled ships, I might end up buying the series, for my air-ships

The PDF is out, and DLed.

Here's the introduction from the Variant Spaceships article:

Quote:
GURPS Spaceships and its supplements (especially GURPS Spaceships 7: Divergent and Paranormal Tech) provide a comprehensive system for spacecraft design . . . but it can be used for a lot more than that if some of its core assumptions are overturned. This article offers several variant rules that let you build ground vehicles, aircraft, watercraft, and even buildings with the system, as well as new ways to create and modify spacecraft.
It's like GURPS Vehicle Design System: The Simpleficationing!

And yes, it includes options for no life support or NBC filters only. You should be able to use it to make airships.

They already mentioned what no life support means in the weird tech one whatever it's called. It increases how many "rooms" a subsystem of habitat gives.

Oooh, I like that Pulver included the Armor and Volume bit - it's something I worked on myself, though my numbers were slightly different:

2: 1
3: 1.1
4: 1.1
5: 1.2
6: 1.2
7: 1.3
8: 1.3
9: 1.4
10: 1.5
11: 1.6
12: 1.7
13: 1.9
14: 2
15: 2.3
16: 2.6
17: 3
18: 3.7
I'm really liking this article.

EDIT: And the article on variant grappling is quite nice, too. I especially like the half-penalty for strikes to locations you're grappling. Makes the classic 'control head, slice neck open' move much more plausible.

The issue isn't IMHO the number of cabins. The issue is one of price. Cabins are EXTREMELLY expensive, even if, at low TLs, they're little more than cargo holds with hammocks, at least for the common sailor. The issue here is that the cabin systems alone cost more than what Low Tech says the whole thing should cost...

Could anyone with the whole Spaceships book series use this article to build a 60' cog, as per LTC3, p41, or a sloop of war, from LTC2, p.38?

How much do they cost, under Spaceships rules?

I would say that a cargo hold with hammocks is best built as a cargo hold, and then add hammocks (negligible weight)! Or for a ship of war, as the cargo-inside-a-weapon battery.

You should be able to get about one person for every 0.1 ton cargo if you cram them in (slaver-style) or 1 person per ton with plenty of room.
