1 or 2.
I'd prefer G'anan not be a source of knowledge-based spell-casting.

I'm going to vote for 1 with him having eventually learned 2. (Leaning towards the Sorcery variant, just because that's my favorate, but any variation works)

I'll go with 1, Material Magic. If G'annan has powers he can use without needing specific tools, the rabbit will be out of the hat on magic shortly after he shows up and is able to prove its existence in a laboratory setting. If he's reliant on tools, however, those can be mistaken for Sufficiently Advanced Technology.

!, at least to start with, may start on 2 later, perhaps after having some sort of mana blocker being removed.

Re: [Space/Thaumatology] Stargate: Fantasy - Worldbuilding thread
OK, it's been long enough since the last vote: We have four votes for 1 and three votes for 2, and two of the votes for 2 suggest he learns it later; so, he's a tool-user, but I'm adding 'Latent Magic (Magic as Powers)' as a perk.
Before I write up the next question, I'm going to ask what traditional magic weapon or weapons you think he should use. Those should be added to the list of options in the next Question, unless there's a good reason not to (like, I'm not giving him something ridiculously powerful - I doubt anyone was going to suggest that, but I felt like it needed to be said). Late EDIT: I do have some options that I came up with if no-one suggests anything before I check tomorrow, but still, if you have an idea, please post it.

Re: [Space/Thaumatology] Stargate: Fantasy - Worldbuilding thread
I think we've all been thinking about a staff weapon... though having it as a spear isn't a terrible idea. I think giving the ranged weapon explosive qualities is a a good idea as well.
Some sort of detector for enemy "technology" would be great, like a glass ball on a chain that glows when enemy shots are fired or a Gould is nearby. A near-miraculous healing technology is a good idea. I think a stealth field would be awesome.

Re: [Space/Thaumatology] Stargate: Fantasy - Worldbuilding thread
For a weapon, I'd say something like a Heavy Spear (albeit perhaps a bit shorter; I believe the Heavy Spear is Reach 2,3*, and G'annan should probably be using a Reach 1,2* weapon), with an enchantment to shoot explosive fireballs, as well as perhaps the stunning feature mentioned when we were discussing the Jaffa Staff Weapon. If you want a bit of a twist, perhaps have the enchantment focused on the counterweight rather than the speartip - to shoot/stun people, G'annan needs to flip his spear around such that the blunt counterweight is facing the foe (a Perk such as Form Mastery would let him do this instantly). You might even have the enchantment be on only the counterweight, allowing him to transfer it between spears or even pull it off and use it separately.

For a slightly baroque touch you could use a energy blast-shooting staff fitted with a bayonet. I'd sue a "socket" bayonet and leave it mounted as default.
Perhaps something like this. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bayone...e-p1000740.jpg

Re: [Space/Thaumatology] Stargate: Fantasy - Worldbuilding thread
OK, so two fairly specific ideas, one vague one that overlaps with what I thought the bardiche below might be like at short range, and one that focused more on equipment that isn't a weapon (though a weapon was mentioned, and kind of overlaps with others). Right, so here's the new, edited Question:
G'annan of Frolec Question VII So, what weapon does G'annan prefer? 1. A bardiche which produces various wind and sand effects, with a variety of effective ranges. 2. A crystal-tipped spear with a freeze ray (probably similar to Cryokinesis-with-greater-range, but powered by Ice Magic instead of PK). 3. A looted Jaffa poison vortex-ring staff weapon. 4. Varyon's Heavy Spear 5. Fred Bracklin's bayonetted energy-staff (requires a vote on the type of damage) 6. Something else (please specify). Please remember to include the number(s) of your preferred option(s) when you vote. ******* Answer: 1 has four votes and wins, 4 and 5 have two each.
