Depends on application, and TL. When my Dad took me by the fire boats for L.A. harbor, 3" rope was standard for mooring to the dock, and they had 4" rope as well. Pre-inexpensive chain production eras there will be a lot more thicker rope use. Natural hemp type rope also tends to be thicker than synthetic rope for the same weight rating.

I deleted a few posts here because they had veered from "Dungeon Fantasy RPG" and into "full, complicated GURPS rules" and were therefore off-topic. This isn't an explicit warning, because it's clear that the moderation team haven't done a good job of making it clear what sort of separation we expect between the GURPS and Dungeon Fantasy forums. As such, I'll be posting a sticky on the subject after this.

Feel free to continue discussion of this "rope house rule," but please keep it focused on the content -- and level of rules complexity -- found in Dungeon Fantasy.
