Hyborian Age/Yrth mash-up
Hyborian Age/Yrth mash-up
I’m a big fan of the fantasy variants of the fantasy variations on major world religions used in Yrth, but it seems that some other GURPS fans are not so pleased with that particular aspect of the setting. What follows is my hasty attempt at an Yrth mod that substitutes something else for the RW religions and cultures while retaining some of the flavor of the official setting (I hope): The humans didn’t come from Earth in OTL, but from Earth of the Hyborian Age. possible cultural origins by country/realm: • Caithness: Mostly Brythunians with admixture of Aquilonians from Westermarck & Tauran, Bossonians, and Gundermen • Megalos: like Caithness but stronger Classical Hyborian (Nemedian and Aquilonian) influences among the upper classes • Cardiel: pluralistic, see neighboring realms, plus a handful of minority groups • Araterre:Mostly Poitainians, Ophirians • Al-Haz: Shemites, Iranistanis • Al-Wazif: Shemites, Turanians, Wazulis of the Himelias • Nomad Lands: Brythunians. Aesir, Vanir, Cimmerians • Sahud: Hyrkanians, Khitaians • Djinn Lands: Shemites • Abydos: Zamorans, Stygians, maybe Corinthians? • Bilit: those weirdos from Red Nails, Picts? Religions: • Temple of Mitra based in Megalos replaces the Church • Erlik and Living Tarim replaces Islam • Shemite cults replace Judaism • Asura, Bel, various mystery cults replace the pagan cults of Megalos Any feedback, suggestions, questions, or comments would be most welcome. Re: Hyborian Age/Yrth mash-up
The date of this would be the Hyborian Age, or a bit later, I presume? Notionally deep in our past, but that doesn't really matter.

Yeah, I suppose the current Yrthian date would match with something in the Hyborian Age, assuming the GM wanted to keep the 1: 1 match in passage of time between Earth and Yrth. Dates might be pegged to the arrival from Earth, or the founding of the early human kingdoms and cities on Yrth. |

Hmm... Now I'm picturing Conan being dropped into an otherwise straight Banestorm game.

I like it, but I'm not married to it. Your version sounds equally fun, and I'd go with it if this was my group's main sticking point about Yrth (but it's not).

Re: Hyborian Age/Yrth mash-up
Thank you, combatmedic. If/when I run Banestorm, I plan on doing a Conan mash-up. You have potentially saved this Conan-inexperienced GM many hours of campaign prep time.
