Thanks for letting me know how to tell Anne Frank she and her book will be famous in Dutch! I'll keep that phrase in mind in case I'm ever sent into the past to visit her and the others in the secret annex.

This is one of those "What would I do in my imagination where everything works out great" vs. "What would I do if it really happened?" My chances of knowing a better place for them to go than what they'd know of seems extremely unlikely. And I'd also be faced with the moral dilemma of "What if I save them all, and as a result Anne's book is just another teenager's diary and never becomes famous?" Simon Wiesenthal said the diary raised awareness more, and gained more sympathy for persecuted people, than the Nuremberg Trials. What if my actions changed history, and things got much, much worse?

I'll stick with being an uncredited extra in Casablanca.

For three days during WWII?
I guess I'd try something I'd be unlikely to do otherwise -- be the Lama of a Tibetan monastery.

Oberfeldwebel Werner Vogel July 20th - 22nd, 1944.

Instead of interrupting Oberst von Stauffenberg in preparing his bomb, this Vogel would step out of the barrack to smoke a cigarette.
And the I would like to see what happens.

I'm not going to touch history with a 10 foot pole, God knows what mess I could cause. I'm just going to chill around for three days is some resort and get back to hopefully unaltered future.

I don't really fancy spending 2.5 days in the Lubyanka with GRU sadists working me over.

That's why you'd do it on the third day.

It faces the problem that all time travel plots face. I could save hundreds or thousands of lives by giving advance warning of Pearl Harbor, but would I come home to read history books about the 1948 Paris Airlift? I could assassinate Hitler, but do I know I'm not condemning Europe to suffer under a mass murderer with better strategic talent?

Put me somewhere I can't hurt history and it is unlikely to hurt me. Laundryman, USS Washington.
