GURPS Glorantha
I know it;s not going to happen, with SJG doing the marketing for ISsaries' HeroQuest RPG, but somehow I think Glorantha would make a pretty good GURPS setting. Some reasons:
1. Everybody knows a little magic. It's common as dirt to be able to cast a spell that adds a point to the amount of damage your sword does. Or cast another spell that adds a point to the hardness of your armor. That doesn;t mean there can;t be powerful mages, but they are usually very experienced types. 2. When you get powerful enough, you get to go on a Hero Quest and encounter the Gods! 3. Ducks! 4. The Uz (otherwise known as Trolls), one of the most fascianting "monster races" in RPGs 9and perfectly playable as PCs too). 5. Trollball! 6. The sense that something really important is about to happen, that the world is in decay and that something very, very BIG will have to be done to set things right. What higher goal for a party of heroic PCs? 7. The Big Rubble, largest darned dungeon-crawl you'll ever see -- so big that it's like a world all its own. |

And it might make sense, Issaries might be able to offer its incredible setting to a part of its audience that has remained with the old RuneQuest system (which I deem more similar to GURPS in approach than to HeroQuest). |

Re: GURPS Glorantha
As a long-time RuneQuest fan who adores Glorantha but isn't crazy about the new HeroQuest game, I would love to see a GURPS Glorantha book happen. I've already posted it as my request in the "GURPS wish list" thread. That said, I'm not holding my breath. :-)
Instead, I'm just working on my own conversion. I've got most of the major non-human races done as racial templates, though I'm still trying to hash out cultural and occupational templates. And the magic systems... I'm slowly getting there, I think, but they still need a lot more work. None of them (battle/spirit magic, divine/rune magic, sorcery/wizardry, ritual magic) translates all that easily to GURPS, and I don't want to mess up the flavour of the world too much.

I suppose that Issaries' partnership with SJG could mean a Glorantha sourcebook. On the one hand, that would be pretty cool. OTOH, I'd think it'd be sort of a slap in the face to the RQ faithful. IIRC, Issaries finally has the rights to RQ. I'd be sad to see it buried yet again. |

Re: GURPS Glorantha
By "Hero Quest," we're not takling about the 1980's board game, I gather.
...I loved that game... |

Too bad. I love the world, but it's *way* too much hassle to convert HeroQuest stuff to RQ or Gurps. (Though a local gm with a lot more energy than me did use and expand on the Gurps Glorantha pdf into a really fun campaign.) I've (out of force of habit) bought most HQ stuff that's come out so far, but I'm likely to give it up as I'm highly unlikely to even read it through. /Jonas |
