OK, what if the tag is not in the listing for the object? given your throwing formula is anything used instead?

Data file listings will not have the tag because GCA calculates it automatically; it'll always be there once the item is added to a character.

Note that a couple of the data files do have these calculated tags, because GCA does save those tags when you save a trait into a data file, and a couple files (I believe the Prime Directive ones) have equipment that the user & data file author saved into the data file. However, most of the official files do not include these calculated tags, instead relying on GCA to calculate them.

At any rate, GCA will always calculate the value and replace anything you put in one of these calculated tags anyways, so it doesn't make much sense to try to include information in those tags.
