For 4e: Supporting Cast: Age of Sail Pirate Crew

Packed with pirate characters and more. It may not be a supplement for all things swashbuckling, but it's a fine mini-sourcebook for the buccaneering side of things.

And I've heard of more than one 3e setting book listed among suggested reading for history classes

Keep in mind that there were three different versions of GURPS 3E Swashbucklers. The 3rd edition was published after the Compendiums, so it incorporates the most accurate and "modern" GURPS 3E material.

The "fluff" (i.e., non-rules stuff) is all good and still relevant.

The "crunchy" (i.e., game mechanics) stuff is mostly superseded by GURPS 4E High Tech and Martial Arts.

The exceptions are that there are a few rules for swashbuckling maneuvers which didn't make it into Martial Arts like yanking carpets and swinging on chandeliers. They might have made it into the DF or Action series books as Exploits, however.

There is also some useful period-specific info in the Character Design section.

If there's a weakness to the supplement, other than its age, it's the fact that it's trying to cover two different genres, "Musketeers" and "Pyrates," with a limited page count.

.
Not High Tech so much. Very few Swashbucklers period weapons or devices in HT even if TL5 is supposed to start at 1730. That's just after the last of the "Golden age" pirates went out of business anyway.

It's Low Tech and Fantasy for Swashbuckling stuff.
