ETA: The opponent could waste a turn disbelieving. They could move differently in response to the impending charge attack, which the wizard may be able to use to his advantage. They might even run away! In the heat of combat, and image may reinforce the opponent's preconceptions, and lead them where they're dying to go. :) Last edited by tomc; 01-01-2021 at 09:44 AM. Re: Wizards staff / spear
I'd be concerned the battle would be over before I got my morning ritual complete. Cue the Blackadder St Crispin's Day jokes.
Maybe something simpler like this: ST 12, DX 12, IQ 8; Sword, Blur, Staff; silver or bronze broadsword-staff; Cast blur in the first turn then throw yourself at the bad buys. Compared with a fighter you're giving up your first turn, 1+1/turn in ST, a shield and a point of damage. You're getting -4 to enemy DX if all is going well. Not a great exchange but I can imagine it working. Another option is something built around Staff III. |

Re: Wizards staff / spear
I'd totally allow a wizard character to take a spear-shaped staff, but if they plan on actually using it as a spear they need Pole Weapons talent, too, same as for any other weapon-shaped staff.
I recently made a "magical assassin" character that had Dagger Mastery and Staff IV. He was squishy as all get out because I didn't have quite enough attribute points to really pull off the build, but scarily effective if he could get in a target's rear hex. I can probably dig up the character sheet, but there were some house rules involved in its creation so it may not be of general interest. |

The generic starting character is a 32-point human. This would be a first level character in D&D.

Anomylous, I'd like to see your character. I've been thinking about a magical assassin myself.
