when is energy spent casting Steal Skill, and does caster know how much cost will be?
M158 seems to have a unique policy for spell aborting only in regard to this one: "caster may abort his casting at any time; the energy is still spent"
This makes it seem like the energy gets spent at a time prior to the 60-second mark, since that's usually when you pay the energy cost of spells, when casting is completed. Aborting spellcasting I would assume normally spends no energy, except in this one case, per B236's "Time Required" You may “abort” an unfinished spell before it is cast, at no penaltySo in this case would you spend the energy costs upfront, on the 1st second you begin the casting? This also makes me wonder - are you obligated to spend the amount of energy equal to the character points the person has put into the desired skill, or can you opt to spend a lesser amount so that you can customize to a lesser energy cost? Severin in the example steals 12 character points put into Merchant by spending 12 energy, but what if you wanted to spend the minimum 10 and only get a lower proficiency in merchant? This seems like it would be important, especially if you don't necessarily know ahead of time how many points someone has in a skill. Like if someone has invested 100 character points in Judo and you want to become a Judoka, do you end up burning up a bunch of HP or knocking yourself unconscious if you lack the HP to steal all 100 points?
