Even now, you get little sympathy with that line. The milk needs to be in the tanks by the time the tanker arrives, and if your farm is at the start of their run, too bad (though that probably also means you finish early compared to the other farms).

Mind you, for much of the year a farmer didn't have a huge workload, because once the crops were in there just wasn't that much work until harvest time. Sowing and harvest times were another matter, of course - there was more work than available people quite often, and travelling seasonal workers were needed to get the crops in.
