Technically though, there isn't any real problem with that position; since GURPS assumes you don't Aim your shot, per say, there doesn't seem to be a reason not to hold it like that; if the gun's pointing than your Skill can do the rest.

You should probably increase Rcl by a bit and disallow Aim. Not only can't you use the sights but the gun is going to be going all over the place.

And if we're getting into absurd ways to fire a gun:

Maybe he holds both hands upside down.

How about a +1 to Intimidation against those that don't know better, much like how Overconfidence grants a reaction bonus to the naive?

Actually I've been wondering; the rules on Shtick I find vastly confusing (me and GURPS have different understandings of the term 'advantage' apparently), but you could take Shtick: Firing Gun Sideways Doesn't Impede Shooting, right?

Absolutely. Shtick is basically the "cool, yet impractical or impossible cinematic trademark is now doable" Perk.

Yeah, but it says 'gives no advantage' and cites spinning your gun from 'here, take it' to 'pow pow' position. Maybe I read into the situation too much but lulling someone into a false sense of security and doing that seems useful enough to be a low-key advantage. But being a Perk I guess that's exactly what it is.

Would 'throw my sword up and catch it on my back-sheathe' be a Shtick? It seems harmless enough but it'd leave both my hands free immediately; I can't tell what GURPS considers 'cool' or 'advantageous'. I think it means 'this just looks cool, no bonus', or it's supposed to prevent things like 'Shtick: Always Shoots The Head'.

The GM would have to say shooting sideways bestows a penalty, in order to make the Perk worth it.

There are some excellent Perk suggestions in expansions.

Quick-sheathe allows sheathing your weapon as a ready action (instead of using a few seconds bothering with the scabbard or holster).

Flicking the blood off your blade is also a perk that grants an intimidation check if the GM allows it.

So, Perks do give you small advantages, they're just usually very specialised and don't come into play that often.

Didn't someone suggest a higher Rcl? I'm sure there are drawbacks (although honestly I don't see the issue; if you need to aim, hoik it back upright, and the 'point 'n shoot' aspect of GURPS covers you with the non-aiming).

I knew about these, but what I meant was 'Shtick' and how it says 'No outright advantage' but seems to imply a lot of fringe ones.
