A countermeasure against a magical monster: implant a small capsule full of sand under your skin, so that it's inside your personal thaumic field. When attacked, scratch it out and break it as you flee; the monster has to gather every grain before it can chase you.

A building where the top three floors' staircases have progressively less, the top floor's stairs being nothing but scaffolding where people are forced to hold onto the guardrails. The only room on this top floor consists mostly of a bathtub intended for toddlers.
