If you're going to assess the best power in gurps don't forget Luck.

In my Saturday pirate game all the PCs had Luck and survied some bad dice roills. The level boss bad guy had a weapon skill 3 pts higher than any PC and 4 more pts of armor but no Luck and one 16 on a Defense roll finished him.

+1. With the 4th edition change, I can't imagine creating a PC without it. Immunity to critical failure for anyone but the chronically unlucky? Bonus.

It's not that I don't understand what you're saying. It's that I disagree with what you're saying.

Well sirree...other than the 110 odd points in wealth, wealth management, etc, etc...my largest non Stat point expenditure is on Luck.

And at 11/11/13/10 I am not exactly a stat monster.

However if you are going to play the markets in a big way...priceless!

Oh yeah it also has a little use for that adventurer hobby.

A guy with 21+ in their weapon skill is someone who defines the art. The kind of fighter who has a fighting style named after them.

That said your rich guy could put 50 points into wealth and just travel around with an army of heavily armored mercenaries. Of for half of those points you could make a guy who throws sticks really well, attacks your spearman at range and makes his amazing spear skill nearly useless.

I'd think someone with a fighting style named after him probably has at least some of the following, or similar skills I'm just not thinking of:
  • Teaching
  • Writing
  • Research
  • Physiology (Optional Spec: Sports Medicine)
  • Propaganda
  • Acting and Fast Talk

Maybe, or it could have been promoted as a style by a student or disciple who actually codified the style.

Yeah. You don't have styles named after you for being a great fighter. You have styles named after you for being very successful at self-promotion.

That, and I expect the appropriate Combat Arts. Looking good at demos, after all.

As to the OP's question: What you're missing is a GM. GURPS isn't played in a vacuum, you need a GM to set the stage.
