In period in our own history figures as diverse as advant guard film maker Kenneth Anger (citation later) to Mick Jagger (citation later) embraced Left Hand Path (citation later) magical practices. In an Alchemical world such people might believe that to improve and liberate society ( to make a golden age so to speak) a period of decay (the "black" sage of decay of the old self before rebirth) would be vital.

Having a conspiracy of celebrities out to corrupt society in order to bring on a Golden Age is perfect for late 1960s superspy stories, especially if The Avengers (citation later) are your model.

Okay, just really started diving into this thread, and I had a couple of different thoughts.

#1: this sounds like it could cross over nicely with GURPS Atomic Horror, since the Azoth generators are basically clean Atomic Reactors. For fun "Atomic Horror" shenanigans, maybe the technology isn't entirely clean, and alchemical pollution occasionally creates monsters like giant insects, blobs and the occasional zombified human monsters.

#2: Related to 1, you could tie in the Loi and Alphans very nicely. Those civilizations would have very advanced alchemical technology themselves. Heck, maybe humanity's own progress in alchemy was founded in information seeded by the surviving Loi mutants, some of whom are now planning to use mankind's new space-faring technology to leave Earth themselves. The Loi government would certainly see humanity's rise as a sign they've "matured" as a species.

#3: Unrelated to the Atomic Horror thing, how would the Middle-East react to the current state of affairs? After decades of getting the short end of the stick from the Colonial Powers who only wanted their oil, they suddenly get left in the cold as fossil fuels are thrown by the wayside in favor of this new energy source. I honestly don't see them just taking that sitting down. I could see some of the still-wealthy nations investing heavily into alchemical research, perhaps trying to find a way to convert oil into a clean, alchemically-enhanced fuel.

Perhaps this could lead to the creation of a clean-burning liquid power source they might call Paut, in deference to ancient Egyptian lore. It might have limited uses, but if it's easier to convert fuel-using vehicules to burn Paut instead of gasoline or diesel, the automobile and airplane industries might jump on the Paut bandwagon. The airplane industry especially might get on board in a desperate bid to stay relevant even in an age of flying saucers.

Seriously cool! Very Barbarella!. Besides, most of the cool Kaiju films were made in the sixties.

While reading the book The Grand Improvisation it occurred to me that in Azoth-8 the UK is a superpower. Moreover a superpower with conflicting interests with the USA.
