Mine is CLUB/STAFF (IQ 7, 1 point)...
Covers the sap, batons, escrima sticks as well as the quarterstaff and more primitive blunt weapons (at the GM's discretion, this talent may be selected by IQ 6 characters).

That's all a good solution. IQ 7 seems appropriate to me.

Are you saying that every wizard who knows Staff can swing his staff like a club? Why should they get this freebie?

If you think that clubs require talent, then a staff swung by a wizard shouldn't be an exception as far as I can tell. You're just showing wizards preferential treatment here.

IQ 6 has the advantage that it is consistent with club-wielding ogres. Ogres have a maximum IQ of 6.

The staff exception is due to the unique personal nature of the stick, but doesn't extend to blade mastery.

I'm not asking whether you can come up with a story justifying the exception. I'm asking why there should be an exception.

Eh, it's your house rule, so you can do what you want, but if you think that it's unreasonable actual warriors can swing a club without training or penalty, then I can't fathom why wizards should be able to do so with their staff. Might as well say that your favored dagger staff doesn't require Knives skill. Unique personal nature of the blade and all.

Staff already comes with a melee attack of sorts -- the occult blast. Adding a specialized club training to it seems gratuitous to me.
