Lock decay
Why should a Lock spell take a moment to cast then last forever?
Whatabout making the Lock decay one level per week since the last casting. So if you cast Lock 5 four weeks ago it only functions as Lock 1 now.

Re: Lock decay
Or perhaps distinguish between the spell and an enchantment version of LOCK. Only the latter would be permanent.
For the spell, you could make the duration dependent on the number of 'levels' applied... LOCK 1 - 1 minute LOCK 2 - 1 hour LOCK 3 - 1 day LOCK 4 - 1 week LOCK 5 - 1 month I think I would also change the cost structure, though. 2 ST is OK for the base spell, but each subsequent layer is x2 (i.e., 4 ST for LOCK 2 up to 32 ST for LOCK 5).

Because it is more fun to not have to do the bookkeeping than it is to maintain a ledger.

Re: Lock decay
I'm also leaning towards making the KNOCK side of the spell more costly. It seems reasonable to me that undoing/unraveling LOCK should require more ST than was used to cast the original spell... unless the KNOCK spell is being cast by the same wizard who performed LOCK.
Maybe LOCK ST x2?

Re: Lock decay
Just add a die for Lock/Knock casting for each level of Lock in place.
