The hobgoblins simply say that everyone in THIS cave is their ally against the necromancers, no matter if they related or friendly. "Please do not kill them."

Vic talks to his teammates, about the plan to have the goblins talk to the other goblins and let us pass. If they agree he says the following to the goblins:


We will take one of you to talk to them, have them not attack us, and if possible join the fight. If we are attacked we will win, and you know of the consequence.

Bain gets ready to face the goblins at the other room; he is careful as not to step into an ambush and proposes the team to advance in formation. Also, he makes sure the doors cannot trap them between the rooms or something similar.

Please walk ahead of us.

There are no doors in the next room of cave complex, it seems to be an open area.

Getting in closer, the party realizes it is a common room of sorts. It has 3 entryways that they can see. (One of the entrances opposite to where you're coming from has a raised portcullis activated by a mechanism next to it. It is currently up.) At least a dozen female goblins are tending to various domestic tasks, from cooking seed-meal porridge to monitoring youngsters. The goblin children number about ten. They all chatter in Orcish.

The hobgoblins walk ahead of the party, with weapons pointed at their backs. When the party storms in, the startled non-combatants immediately start to flee in the opposite direction, scooping up their young in their arms or otherwise abandoning their posts.

(OC: These goblins are Move 6. You've got about one or two seconds before any of them get through the entrance with the portcullis. Consider a roll of Intimidation. The third entrance, the one you did not come from and not the one the goblins are fleeing towards, has no door and immediately opens up to another "T" junction of two corridors.)

Gathika rolls diplomacy 12/9, she's talking in company of the goblin and Bain so the reaction improves.

The female goblins stop in their tracks according to the commands of the party and their hobgoblin prisoners.

They still cower to protect their young from the intruders, keeping their body in-between.

The prisoners relay that the goblin-women beg that the party spare their children, and themselves. They empathetically declare they are not warriors and have never harmed anyone, let alone any of the adventurers' people.

Bain explains that they are here to hunt down the abominations; he gets closer to the goblins and speaks to them:

This is the Riddle of Steel, I am Bain of Avalon, first of his name.

We plan not to kill friendly creatures, and while we are humans and you might have a quarrel with those at the Keep, we are but travelers answering the call to cleanse this place from the necromancer and their corruption…

You are already aware of the threat that plagues this place.
It’s unlike anything you’ve ever seen before.
Being honest with you, there’s a big chance that all of you will die.
But let’s ask ourselves this:
What are we, if we give up without fighting?
What do we become, if we let fear and this enemy trample all over us?
This is our answer:
NOT HERE, NOT ON OUR WATCH!

If you want join us, you are free to do so.
We also have (temporary) shelter for you, at a safer place than this.
Otherwise, we ask you no to stand in the way of our Steel.


His speech is adorned with gestures that denote he believes in the cause pursued by The Riddle of Steel, and that they could help the goblins. He asks the creatures to spread the word about the Riddle of Steel, that they are not enemies but allies, and that at least they (the Riddle) will stand neutral if they (the goblins) do the same.

OOC: I am rolling leadership 10 (9) for the speech, hoping to put Bain’s qualities on display. You already know our prowess and selection of social skills (LOL).

Vic whispers to the team,

Isn't it really strange, that these goblins are living so peacefully just behind zombies and monsters? and fully knowing about the necromancer? This is beyond bewildering. Are they brainwashed? Controlled by the monsters?

Vic rolls 7 for naturalist (skill level 14), to understand the goblins' behavior and if it's natural for them.
