During a family game of Munchkin, my cousin's character died. As we were sorting out who gets to loot his body first, my brother-in-law played a Curse! Lose One Level card on me to assure he got to Loot the Body first, but I argued no curses can be played until after the death had been resolved. Was I correct in that instance?

Curses can be played at any time, which would include before looting a body.
Official Munchkin Rules, bottom of Page 5 http://www.worldofmunchkin.com/rules/munchkin_rules.pdf "Curses If drawn face-up during the Kick Open The Door phase, Curse cards apply to the person who drew them. If acquired some other way, such as by Looting The Room, Curse cards go into your hand and may be played on any player at any time. ANY time, do you hear me?" |

I know that they can be played at anytime, but, since this game doesn't have their card effect stack on each other (in other words, resolving all at once), I thought certain mechanics, like Bad Stuff and Death, had to resolve before other cards can be played.

I'm torn about this. I'd definitely be against allowing Item-stealing Curses to take effect, but this seems almost in the spirit of the game, to allow a Curse to affect a players Level to affect looting order. We'll have to see what Andrew's thoughts are, as well, but for simplicity's sake, let's just say that you have to resolve looting before Curses can be thrown around.
