All abuzz about Control Animal
WRT Evil Stevie's note on Temple of the Six Gates.
ITL 140 "A 3-hex creature would triple the cost, and so on." So Control Animal on a rat would cost 1 fatigue to cast (minimum cost), then one fatigue every minute to maintain, right?

Re: All abuzz about Control Animal
It wouldn't be ridiculous to conclude that casting spells on smaller critters have a lower ST cost, but the quote for p. 140 does not say that. It only says that casting spells on larger critters comes with a higher cost.

Why is this in the House Rules subforum?

Because there are no official "subhex" rules other than some notes about rats and such.
Here's mine: https://www.hcobb.com/tft/house_rules.html#Weight

Re: All abuzz about Control Animal
Took me a while to figger out why you make the health save rolls fewer dice for the small buggers, but I presume it's so the low ST guys still have a chance to resist poison.
But I do think it's pretty questionable that goblins and halflings would get -1 dice in their health save rolls. It's an interesting approach trying to unify all these various categories of critter size. I'm not sure I like the approach to health saves in particular -- I don't see why smaller critters get an adjustment so that they can overcome poisons more easily. I think you're just trying to compensate for the negative effects of low ST with that column and maybe low ST should have a few negative effects. After all, if low ST didn't have any drawbacks, some folk might think it's a dump stat, right? |

The little guys also pay more for ST and carry less load per unit ST.
It's the big critters that get reduced price ST, so that they can match NPC Gargoyles and Reptile Men.

However, it seems to me that the same amount of poison in a smaller body ought to be more likely to cause damage than in a larger body even if the two have the same ST. I just don't quite get why you decided otherwise, but no matter. It's your houserule after all. But I'm a little surprised to see your ST 6 goblin wizards are unlikely to ever bother increasing ST -- they really must love their manastaffs, huh? |
