Default Ritual Path Magic FAQ and Answers Thread

The following thread is meant to serve as a FAQ to the popular Ritual Path Magic system. Originally from Monster Hunters 1: Champions, it has since become a highly used and widely exported system. Because of this it has even gotten its own book (which is currently still forthcoming, though is expected sometime Autumn 2013).

Currently, there is no set order for any of the links and they have only a basic description from the thread itself. Thanks to Humabout for gathering together all of the links and thread titles. I intend to eventually winnow this down to actual questions and answers, but this works for now. Please feel free to ask any questions you might have about RPM here as well.

While this may be thread necromancy, the question is about Wards.

Can you use Bestow a Bonus to increase the effective skill of a ward?

So I am trying to write a ritual for a warrior to summon a magic "bow".

If the spell-bow can shoot repeatedly through the spell, is it better to forgo a damage modifier and use altered Traits to grant an innate attack so that it's not a one and done?

Creating a bow is a Create Matter effect plus the penalties for crafting per p. 16 of GURPS Thaumatology: Ritual Path Magic.

Thanks. I put "bow" in quotes because what I am going for is a spell that looks like a bow, but lets me use a build to circumvent having to ready arrows (or maybe even have arrows) and ready the bow for each shot for the duration.

Mechanically equivalent to conjuring a ray gun (other than the damage type).

I was considering putting the Melee Capable enhancement on it since Melee seems to be able to be combined with a duration to keep a hand weapon around continuously and able to damage on successive rounds without additional casting, but I was also considering that perhaps it needed an altered trait to add a properly modified innate attack so it can be freely used through the duration.

If it's a conjured weapon then you use Create (X Path) and then add Bestows a Bonus to determine the bonus to damage. The base damage is whatever you are conjuring. The drawing an arrow for it is a wash if you determine that's how the spell works - it just creates an energy arrow when you "pull" back the string.
