I've got to argue your first point, Real Men swing at any skill level.

• Real Men play against the Odds, not against Chance.
• Real Men understand that the Warrior is just as important as the Weapon.
• Real Men don't need Clerics to follow them into the Darkness.
• Real Men Bleed when they are Cut.
• Real Men can Parry.
• Real Men understand the Real Value of +1.
• Real Men can Kill with an unarmed Punch.

Don't count on that beating a housecat in unarmed combat. Cats always travel armed. And they're a lot stronger than their little frames let on. Speaking as someone whose cats have occasionally strongly objected to vet visits.

Back then, classes were REAL classes. Every cleric was the same as every other cleric, every fighter was the same as every other fighter, and so on. This made it very easy to create new characters after your original ones got killed. These days, you can spend more time creating new characters than actually gaming.

Uh, other than the flavor text ("REAL classes") I'm not sure how that's supposed to be wrong. Early D&D, I've been told many times, had very simple character building. Like, roll stats, pick a class, done...

...And I've almost certainly spent more time building characters than playing them, though I'd have read that to be intended as humorous exaggeration.

Exactly so if he was serious then i don't see how he could enjoy those aspects. Maybe i'm skewing it through my own lens but i can't imagine how that could be enjoyable which is the way it's being portrayed.
