John King is now in his sixties. He is a former pirate captain, and looks the part, with a wild white beard, eye patch, and missing left leg. He lost his ship years ago, and with the ship, most of his social standing among his peers. Too old and too crippled to get hired as a seaman, John turned bitter and resentful. In his quest to regain his lost glory, he delved into the Black Arts, and managed to bind several demons to his will.
Most of the younger pirates in port don't actually remember the time when ol' John was still sailing out, but they have realized that he commands a different kind of power now. John, meanwhile, is convinced that he'll rise to be king of all pirates, and constantly plots to that end.

I am intrigued by your ideas and wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

I have one minor query I would have you answer for me.

What is this 'Demonic Attunement' of which you speak and whence came it?

Hmm. You spent 4pts on each of your 9 spells. Could you take another level of magery instead and only spend 2 pts on them each?

Actually, could buy another level of IQ and keep all your IQ skills and spells at the same level, yet get points back!

But still off the reservation somewhat; he's a 200 point character built on a 250 point template and the points in skills and spells seem rearranged. Why? He's also almost a completely useless melee fighter, which doesn't make him much of a Pirate Captain, IMO. Lame and One Eye aren't template disads, and I think are on the verboten list anyway.

Yeah, Thar's Gold in Them Thar Skills :J

Basically, unless you're doing a Johnny-One-Spell, only take /H spells at [1] - /VH spells you can take at [2] if you've only got a few of them, otherwise take those at [1] too.

Oh come on - he's a freaking NPC (and a very nice one too). Even the most literal-minded of Dungeon Fantasy players is going to recognise this as the evil level boss who isn't going to win any fights on his own but who doesn't need to, 'cause he's got these demons working for him and he knows his way round the Sordid Pirate Port (TM) so you only get to him after fighting your way through taverns full of dockside scum.

When you do catch sight of him, odds are he's hobbling away cursing you while you're locked in a desperate battle with his latest summoning.

sir pudding: not a DF game, just a 200 CP anything-goes Fantasy game.

We've capped Magery/Power Talents at Lvl 3, so upping the Demonic Attunement isn't on the menu. You're right about the IQ, though; I'll fix it.
