I synchronize my watch with the clock, but otherwise do not adjust my schedule. Victory is decided at the last possible instant.

The clock ticks slowly down, and there is a great cheer when it hits zero. "Hail the living emperor!"


General Kunitane pulls them aside after 10 minutes. "This means the emperor is no longer an especial target... he needs to reappear and take control. There are still demons all over this world, yes?"


Silestro: "Yes, we will probably stay for just a few more days. With my colleagues' agreement, I will seek counsel from our masters. I believe they are itching to go on the offensive."

You get Gurdo himself for just a moment: you have to wait, as he is "attending to many matters at the moment." After a few moments, you hear him.



"Great Job, you three. If you had failed, we all would have. Stay near the emperor for another two days, and then we'll pick you up and replace you with public relations experts. we've still got to clean up the invasion. Celebrate, keep your visible actions concentrated on killing demons, and don't accept any gifts larger than your head."


The submarine ascends to the surface so that locals can take charge of cleaning out the remaining demons.

I then rush off to gather up the equipment left aboard the submarine.

The emperor presents each of them with a gift. Silestro receives a go board, inlaid with jade, ivory, and beautiful carvings. Vassarious receives a carving of a oceanic guardian spirit, and another of a Marlin. Halcyon receives three of those underwater riffles, but these have the stamp of the emperor on them, as well as an underwater pistol.


The Demons never approach the ship. Once they reach the surface, the emperor spends all days giving speech after speech, hearing briefings, and doing his very best to be the image of reconquering the world from the demons.



Eventually, a portal opens, and the three are able to return to the Villa. It seems that There is not immediately a task for them... Which often indicates they will be playing "offense" on a world soon.
