(IC) Lost In Dreams [Peter]

"The gate? It's that way". Someone slowly fiddles with something on their wrist and points, like they're lining up their finger with their eyes. "That way exactly."

"Thanks! Would you mind estimating about how far? I don't suppose one of you could spare a towel or tarp or something?"

Peter will dress himself in whatever scrap they offer if they do, and heads off toward the gate.

"The mapper says its 10.78 kilometers away"


One of the men gives him a pair of gray-green hand-towels made of some thin but absorbent material and a coil of thin rope, like parachute cord or shoe-laces.


They're still standing there, watching him, as he heads towards the gate.



The terrain isn't flat, and the vegetation is fairly dense. Its going to take him a while to get to the gate. (Move miles per hour x .4 for a mixture of bad and very bad terrain). He has about 6 and a half miles to walk. He doesn't know this yet, but it will take him a little over three hours to get to the gate.



Its also going to be tricky to navigate with all of these trees and no visual landmarks.

Peter thanks the men for their kind donations and heads off into the jungle.

He will look at the size of the cloths... are they large enough to make a loincloth? Is the terrain such he's be better off making paracord and cloth shoes?

Once he gets some distance from the men, He will try and combine the magics he's been working on and make a puff of smoke with the magic of the clockwork world and fashion it into a housefly with Karana to make himself a scout to fly up and get his bearings. If that doesn't work, he will see if he can use some cord to make a bow drill with the local materials and start a small fire for the purpose.

The cloths are about 1 foot by 2 feet each, so in combination with the cord, a loincloth is doable. The cloths aren't rigid enough to give any benefit as shoes, and the terrain doesn't seem too bad: mostly bare dirt and leaves.

The Puff of smoke costs 10 ER, which is what I think he has. A Karana creation made from it and no other ER will last 5 minutes, while using the 10 ER for the Karana will make it last for 50 minutes.

If you want to go ahead and chain the puff and form trick, it succeeds, and you have about 5 minutes of scout fly.

If you make the bowstring fire... that also works (takes 10 minutes), and you can spend 1 ER for every 5 minutes of scout fly you want.

The fly heads up above the trees. The trees curve up up up into the sky, and the center of the sky is a bright white line providing light.

From this vantage point, the fly can see both birds and pterosaurs in the sky, though none are close to really inspect (or have to run from). He might be able to see dinosaur heads off in the distance... Sauropods, in the tops of the trees. If there are any predators, they are below the canopy.

Peter uses his smoke-puff trick for the first scout for the initial bearing verification.

He walks for a while with Goliath and inspects the plants, looking for what's familiar and not and might be edible.

Peter forages along their way for about an hour and then stops and makes a fire. He uses what he's been able to find and makes Goliath and himself some breakfast and rests.

When he's feeling recuperated, he will create more Karana-bug scouts to explore a bit more and check out the dinos! He sends some to the fence-line as well to see if he can determine if the facility he arrived in on his last visit is visible.

It will be a shame if Peter doesn't meet some dinos eventually... he's very well suited to make friends with them!

It's pretty unfamiliar. Flowering plants are rare, and those are the ones survivalist guides focus on. Pinenuts should be edible though, and if he can catch meat, that should be good as well. Harvesting the pinenuts will take a lot of work, but its something to eat. Some basic research would make him feel a lot better, or even just the ability to watch the local wildlife and see what they eat.

He's been going pretty slow, about 1.5 miles of his journey so far. The "Fence-line" at this distance is less visible as a fence and more visible as the building behind it... or rather as the giant wall of smooth surface ending the large open space in the station. Its still about 5 miles away. The flies aren't fast enough to get much closer without spending at least 20 minutes flying towards it*. Some of the building looks like it has no fence at all, some of it looks industrial, and he thinks he can see the "customer facing" gate he's headed towards. The industrial entrances could be the facility he was in last time, but there are dozens of doors that could have been the "trouble one".



*Also, Karana Vision is only good for a short distance. Post 654 indicates its 20 yards.



The flies DO spot something about 100 yards away in the forest... something very large, mostly via the movement it makes in the canopy.

It will be a shame if Peter doesn't meet some dinos eventually... he's very well suited to make friends with them!

He doesn't go into full survival mode, just getting a feel for the terrain.

I really wanted him to go, but I considered his his overconfidence against his need to protect the innocent, and decided he just wasn't sure he could keep the cat girl safe in a dino-jungle.
