(IC) Lost In Dreams [Peter]

At first the soldiers are nervous about letting him get too close to the portals. When he brings up the possibility of closing them, the commander says go ahead, and he's able to look through them then. He mostly sees fields in various states of growth and repair, with various crops growing, plus the clockwork sky.



The soldiers cheerfully explain HOW to drive, and indeed some of the finer points of military driving. At one point the portal chasing takes them into a dirt field, and he's offered a chance to sit in the driver's seat.


The soldiers chat among themselves some, and some of them ask where Peter is from.



He is quite tired that evening when he gets back, and sleeps without dreaming. The next day they go out looking for portals in a different area.



Between Portal Hunting, Schoolwork, Self-Defense Class, and trying to get the soldiers to teach him to drive (he gets another chance that second day), he's got a busy day. (What is the day by your calendar? I think its Dec 4 here, Dec 11 back home).

After his dreamless sleep, I have Peter's homeline at Dec 11 as well.

Peter continues the routine and more and more plays it like he is one of the soldiers, save for the occasional good natured insubordination.

To those asking where he's from he will say that it's classified and they're not cleared, but he will tell them he's from New England.

Peter is in the area for two more days, keeping to the same routine. They never do back to him about letting him back through the portal. General Thurmond sends him an email the morning of the 6th (local time, 13th back home):



We are still discussing your use in negotiations and espionage. Don't expect anything over the weekend- Gen. Thurmond

The Soldiers seem to have been told to leave his mornings alone for schoolwork, at least for now. Or something. He goes out after lunch each day hunting portals. On the 13th, they don't close them, and don't even approach them: they just want him to count how many he can sense as they drive down the freeway: it seems there's one every four miles or less.

On Friday Evening, he goes to sleep, and dreams.

Peter dreams of the cloning facility with the cat-girl. He dreams of men patrolling, cleaning, and shouting at each other. He dreams of the cat-girl climbing into a box and whispering "almost there", and of men loading the box into an iron shipping container.

Peter will try and have a look around the vicinity in his dream and he will go where dreams may take him if the pull comes...

He will envision himself drifting off to the dreamscape... in his clothing!

He takes a look around in his dream: Its seems to be part of the facility he found her in: a massive indoor complex of rooms and equipment, butting up to a large Forested enclosure. Some of the area beyond in industrial part seems to include a small city, with hotels, restaurants, stores, and swimming pools.

He wakes up naked. In wet dirt. Goliath is near him. He's in the jungle, unable to see the false sun through the dense canopy. He hears the crackling of a campfire, and hears someone talking about a "game trail"

Peter silently shushes Goliath and remains silent. He eavesdrops on the 'campers' and tries to gather more information and get his bearings and clear off some of the mud. He has a look at his immediate area and creeps closer to the sound to see if he can get a covert look at the campsite.

Well, the clothing thing was worth a try... it's his 17th dream-jump!

There are at least three of them, and they are discussing which dinosaurs to hunt (T-Rex, Therizinosaur, and Ankylosaur seem to top the list), where to find them, and gadgets for tracking and spotting the dinosaurs, like infrared scanners and electronic hounds

Peter is creeping up to get closer when he hears some rather artificial chirping sounds, hears people standing. He still can't see them when one of them says: "Stand up slowly and show yourself. We're armed."

"No need to be alarmed, I'm unarmed and my dog is big but very friendly if you're not aggressive."

Peter steps out and reveals himself holding Goliath gently by the scruff of his neck... He trusts Goliath not to surge forward and alarm the men, but thinks being seen to hold him will make them less concerned about the great beast's appearance.

He flashes them a Disarming Smile.

"please don't shoot!"

There are four men, all holding riffles pointed mostly in his direction. They're also all wearing really good caumoflage, and two of them have some sort of transparent plastic in front of their faces. Its hard to get a good look at their faces: its all just camo and gear.

A "Disarming" smile you say?

All of the guns lower, and two of them drop to point their barrels to the ground. He hears exclamations of surprise. One of them says: "Where's you clothes? Are you hurt?"

Another says: "How'd you get here?" He sounds a bit wary.

Peter's demeanor is calm and matter of fact. He is behaving as though it is perfectly normal to be strolling about out here in the buff.

"Thanks for your concern, but I'm not injured. I'm afraid I don't have any clothing. If you can point me toward the gate, I won't take up any more of your time."

Peter makes eye contact with the man and looks at him in ernest.

"You can trust in me when I say that you wouldn't believe me if I told you."

Peter has a look around and tries to see if he can determine the way they came in. He takes his guess, points and asks...

"Gate that way?"
