Default Anarchy in Atlantis (IC)

The arcology’s official collapse was in the rear view mirror, the exact time forgotten due to the chaos distracting everyone. In the early days of the fall, many clumps of people scrambled all over, trying to find something solid. Nowadays, most of Atlantis has settled into new routines and claimed permanent turf.

But the heroes of our tale are not among them - they are still living a transient existence, pushed from place to place by disaster or warring between factions. Their latest resting place is, predictably, at a kind of “rock bottom” - a deserted working class apartment forgotten by the arcology’s population and left to rot.

They figure they’re far enough away from anything interesting or valuable for now that they can enjoy some peace and time to prepare for their next venture.

Our heroes are;
Repairman Jack and his father
Voice and his loyal bodyguard Marcello Racanni
Aleph
Breeze
Cascabel

These 5 adventurers met each other during the initial displacement that came with the breakdown in Atlantis, and decided to stick together as a small gang for greater hope of survival.

(OC: Consider noting in the OC thread what your PC’s opinions of the other heroes are. The other PCs may not know what your PC thinks of them, but your PC has been with the gang long enough to have gotten a rough surface level impression of their personalities.)

DAY 1

It is just after breakfast (about 8 AM) when the group is interrupted by a bunch of what looks like a street gang barging into the apartment (the door was semi-busted, the lock gone). The new arrivals are distracted by other concerns and do not notice the heroes resting in what they assumed to be their turf for several seconds after they enter the appartment’s living space. Even the noisemaker trap the heroes had set up by the door (a stack of cans positioned to be knocked over and make a rattle if the door was opened suddenly) fails to get the bad guys’ attention - but the heroes hear it in time.

Once they register the heroes, they react by angrily shouting something, and reaching for their guns. There is not much cover in the rundown flat, but semi-adequate concealment. The breakfast table, the living room couch, the cheap drywalls…

(OC: I did some hidden rolls beforehand, one PC succeeded at Urban Survival and another passed Streetwise to prepare in case of danger, one of you passed a Traps roll and set up a noisemaker. Instead of being caught off-guard, each of you are now behind a table, couch or thin wall (in whatever stance/position you want) with ready weapons (no need to Fast-Draw). Range penalties are -1 or -2 (you choose), no Darkness penalty. Multiple characters succeeded at Area Knowledge, but that info is not immediately useful, I’ll post it in the OC thread as what your characters already know. Remind me if I don’t.)

Cascabel shouts from behind the couch
"Have you ever heard of knocking?"

Repairman Jack gives his dad a 'stay down' pat, then stands up, with a pipe wrench dangling from his hand.

"Evenin', Neighbors. Trying to do some work on the pipes here. Can we help you?"

(Fast Talk of 13).

The go-gangers hesitate, confused by Jack’s words.
(OC: their rolls are penalised -1 for this turn only.)

(OC: still waiting on Aleph, then I’ll post the Ally NPC’s action/s. Then it’s Cascabell’s turn.)

(OC: Sorry, I didn't think this would start on a Sunday.)

I aim at them from a range of -1.

Voice’s bodyguard Marcello springs into action, firing his heavy revolver at one of the bad guys…

(OC: Range -1, effective skill 12, rolled a 13…)

The shot misses just barely. The long bang of the gunshot almost makes the dust shake from the ceiling.
(OC: Cascabell, your turn.)

"Oh, that's torn it."

Cascabel pokes her eye and gunhand around the couch and squeezes off a shot at the leader. (ETA: Leader meaning whoever's in front)

"There's other apartments, guys, we don't have to do this."

(OC: Range -1, effective skill 9, rolled 6
Damage: 8 pi+)

The noise of the gunfire drowns out Cascabel’s scolding.
(OC: record one bullet shot if you have not already, Cascabel, ammo is infinite.)

The bad guy tried to flinch away, but took the bullet straight into his chest.
(OC: DR 1, 7x1.5= 11 injury. Bad guy is now at 0 HP, and must roll HT for the major wound. Fails.)

The goon drops to the floor, grievously injured and probably dying.
