Source? I've never seen this, anywhere and chemically it doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Which it must have been because anaerobic metabolisms were the only game in town.
What about autotrophs?

Of course the OP's species isn't anaerobic. They're like plants only improbably active.
Why? How?

Why is it that you think that autotrophs can't be anaerobic?

Well, it's clearly true that the organisms that gave rise to the oxygen atmosphere were not themselves oxygen breathers (since you can't get oxygen breathers until you first have oxygen), ergo they are anaerobic.

I don't. Autotrophs can use either form of respiration but respiration isn't the same thing as synthesis. One is oxidation and the other reduction. They are opposite processes.

Chemo- or Photo- synthesis of sugars isn't breathing.

EDIT:
If I'm wrong show me the reaction that has Sugar as a reactant and O2 as a product and the organism that uses it.

Didn't say it was. If it doesn't use oxygen, it's anaerobic, whether or not any breathing is involved. You may be focused on a particular biology definition of anaerobic, but it has a generic chemistry meaning.

.
Yeah, whatever. That's why I didn't use the word "respiration".

The OP seems to be talking about respiration. Isn't he?

You used "metabolism". Besides I was clearly talking about respiration, which is what the OP seems to talking about too.

We're agreed that there's no good reason for the OPs original construction, but there's probably some method for an anaerobic non-autotroph organism to generate oxygen. There's just not an obvious reason for it to want to do so.

My writing gets a little odd right before I take a nap. But that's what I meant.

I asked how y'all would model a specific example of respiration in game terms; my question has been answered to my satisfaction. I don't have much to add to the biochemistry portion of the conversation and so I'm sitting back and reading while taking some notes when stuff I'm not familiar with is mentioned and having the occasional chuckle.

Is there something in specific you'd like from me?
