Combat starts, TURN 1

As Gathika's magic chases the darkness away, a hulking Manticore strikes at the back of the party, targeting Telrith and Gathika.

It tries to claw at Telrith and sting Gathika with its tail.
(Attack rolls for both attacks is 15, both players need to roll active defences if it hits.)
(The damage roll is 2d cutting for claw (Telrith), tail sting (Gathika) is 2d+3 impaling + follow-up poison, HT roll to resist, failure means paralysis.)
(OOC: The manticore has DR 1, SM+1, Dodge 10, and HT 12.)

Bain attacks the manticore after that.
(OOC: roll monster's Dodge 10, Bain.)

The Manticore fails to land its blow on the two adventurers, and Bain fires two arrows in return. It quickly jerks to the side, evading the shots. (OOC: Dodge 10, rolled a 7.) It is unfazed by the sunlight spell.

Vic the Digger steps in to attack it, but the monster again avoids the danger.
Gathika cannot strike successfully at the beast either, mishandling her sword.
Telrith, seeing this, orders his elementals to join in the assault with vigor. Meanwhile, he will protect his comrades.
The conjured beings both attack, but the monster is too slippery despite its immense size. (OOC: Successful defense.)

TURN 2

The manticore lashes out at the elementals with its talons, cutting them both for minimal injury.
(OOC: successful attacks, rolled 7 and 4 cutting damage. One elemental takes 1x1.5 cutting injury.)

Bain has to stop this horrid monster...

Bain gets serious, he takes a deep breath and speaks to the monster.

You are such a magnificent creature, but if you pose a threat to my friends...

He prays, as bidding farewell:

Temple of soul, there will be no life, but the pure and ascetic image before which existence turns grave, opaque and heavy...

Ultimate technique: SHINING BLACK!


Three arrows fly toward the Manticore, deceiving its instinct with killing intent, they pierce its vitals and its head (for 76 HP of injury); the creature is knocked-down!

The manticore dies as the arrows land straight into its heart and head.

(Combat over.)

Everyone catches their breath as the rush of violence wears off.
The party must now decide what to do next. Should they go straight down the corridor to the lit room, or take a right to the tunnel with the flickering illumination?

Benefiting from Gathika’s sunlight spell, Bain takes a look at the “flickering corridor” as soon as combat is over…

He recovers his arrows, and talks to the fallen monster:


Such a shame you had to meet your end, but you found the answer, at last.

(OOC: assuming the “flickering corridor" is clear).
Then he turns to his friends… he suggests to take 30 minutes of break:

I think we should take a rest; that spellcasting has got to be a burden for you, Gathika...
Also, since you are the biggest cultist in the party, why don’t you give us a clue? What path should we take?
And what do you think, guys?

By the way Telrith, is OBSIDIAX hurt?


(OOC: If the party agrees to rest)
As Gathika "thinks" about things, and recovers her energy, Bain looks for tracks to support a decision… and set ups a few traps to stop potential attackers.

OCC: 1 point of damage... does healing even work on elementals? It might be good to save healing for a bigger wound.

What do we have for light? If we don't have a light source other than the sunlight spell, Telrith will try to get a torch off someone and give it to Obsidiax to hold in the off hand.

Good to know OBSIDIAX will be fine. By the way, as Gathika said, she can do sunlight and continual light. I also have some tricks under my sleeve; this is how we lit our torches.

The torches are burning blue.

The party moved too quickly to open the door.

Just in front of the door, but hidden by a corner in the corridor, are 3 armed skeletons and 3 zombies in an alcove. Sentries.

Combat starts, turn 1

The walking bones attack with shortswords, slashing at Bain, Vic and Gathika.
(Skill 14, damage roll 1d+1 cutting, players roll for me please.)
(OOC: skeletons are Unliving and DR 2, Speed 8.00, Dodge 11, Parry/Block 10.)

The 3 zombies attack with maces.
They strike at Gathika, Telrith and Vic.
(Skill 13, damage roll 2d+2 crushing, players roll for me please.)
(OOC: zombies are Speed 6.00, Unliving and DR 2, Dodge 8, Parry/Block 9.)
