Temporary Attributes as Powers
Hey, I'm trying to create a Psionic character who can temporarily increase his physical capabilities at the cost of fatigue.
I've looked into doing this with Altered Time Rate, Extra Attack, Enhanced Defenses, and other Advantages. However, I feel like just focusing on the Primary and secondary attributes would better wholly emulate the power my character has. So, for example.. DX +3 (Costs Fatigue 2/sec, -20%; Psionics, -10%) [42]. Another option...ST +3 (Costs Fatigue 2/sec, -20%; Psionics, -10%) [21]. Or...HT +3 (Costs Fatigue 2/sec, -20%; Psionics, -10%) [21]. But...what if wanted to use these all together at the same time. I essentially want to use of combination of different stat increases together to mimic a heightened bodily state for my character. Can i just lump these all together and then apply the modifiers (e.g. ST +3, DX +3, HT +3 (Costs Fatigue 2/sec, -20%; Psionics, -10%) [84])? -or- Do I need to keep each "power" separate, use the +10% Link modifier on each, and then pay 6 FP/sec? I am wondering not from a RAW perspective, but from a RAI perspective. Would you allow the former interpretation in a game? Is it too powerful? For me, things like Altered Time Rate, and Extra Attack already attempt to abstract an increase in the base stats, so a literal grouping of those stats doesnt seem out of the question. I look forward to your thoughts. |

Re: Temporary Attributes as Powers
It is possible (and ambiguously RAW) to treat "ST +1, DX +1, HT +1" as a (leveled) meta-trait, and then add the modifiers to the meta-trait rather than each individually. (I believe this method was enshrined in Supers with the Defense Bonus meta-trait being able to take Gadget limitations.)
Another option may be to make the increases a template for an Alternate Form, and add the modifiers to that, though the default of "10 seconds to change forms" bit may need to be adjusted by enhancements as well. This help?

Re: Temporary Attributes as Powers
I believe both biotech and Monster Hunters also have examples of Attributes treated this way (Mostly ST though).
A refluffed Blessed can also get you what you're looking for.

Re: Temporary Attributes as Powers
Is there anyway to create a power similar to the one mentioned above, but contains modular elements?
Essentially, Id like the ability to scale the level of the power (e.g. boosting ST+1, DX+1, HT+1; or ST+2, DX+2, HT+2; etc), but id also like the ability to only boost ST, or DX, or HT separate from each other. It would be like Modular Abilities but with Attributes. |

Re: Temporary Attributes as Powers
You mean like alternate abilities?
Improved ST 4 (Maximum duration 30 seconds -65%, power modifier -10%)[10] Improved DX 2 (Maximum duration 30 seconds -65%, power modifier -10%, Alternate ability of improved Strength)[10/5 = 2] Improved HT 4 (Maximum duration 30 seconds -65%, power modifier -10%,Alternate ability of improved Strength)[10/5=2] You pay 14 points for the whole package and can get a 30 second boost to one of the abilities. Or you can even mix and match, taking one of each, or +2 ST and +1 DX. I will point out that when doing stuff like this the GM should keep a close eye and a firm hand. This concept looks safe, fun, and tactically interesting, but as a GM I would be very wary about allowing IQ to be added to the list.

Re: Temporary Attributes as Powers
Its in the powers book on page 11. It's optional, but very useful.

Re: Temporary Attributes as Powers
You would need to add Link +20% to all the abilities, which allows you to use them simultaneously or not, at your discretion.

+2 ST (ability 1) (Maximum duration 30 seconds -65%, power modifier -10%) [5] +2 ST (ability 2) (Maximum duration 30 seconds -65%, power modifier -10%) [5] +1 DX (ability 3) (Maximum duration 30 seconds -65%, power modifier -10%, alternate ability to ability 1) [5/5=1] +1 DX (ability 4) (Maximum duration 30 seconds -65%, power modifier -10%, alternate ability to increased ability 2) [5/5=1] With this set up, you can easily see you can use abilities 1 and 2 at the same time (+4 ST), or you can use abilities 1 and 4 at the same time (+2 ST, +1 DX) or you can use abilities 3 and 4 at the same time (+2 DX). The way I wrote it, you just remember that you can only use 10 points of powers at once.
