That was a fun Gen Con. A very busy Gen Con, too -- we sold almost 1,000 of the Deluxe Basic Set in the slip case (that's still on my game shelf of honor) plus I have no idea HOW many of the regular Basic Set books.

Still proud of those books, all these years later, and of the hard work the entire team put into making them happen.

Happy Birthday, 4th Edition!

I remember getting the Basic Set books singly - both because they were kind of expensive when I was a student and because they were still hard to get in Germany. Unfortunately, my go-to RPG store for GURPS products closed down soon after. I missed out on a lot of 1st printings for that reason alone.

But the books were really a revelation. The organisation and the colour-coding was so much better than the old Basic Set.

Happy birthday! I'm very pleased that GURPS is still going strong. My signed/limited edition 4e slipcase is all nice and cozy on my shelves, but my normal Basic Set books are all worn out. I also have a whole bunch of 3e books I still enjoy cracking open every now and then.

Alcohol depends on locale; some locales require it to be 21.

But it can vote and enlist.

I didn't know there was a 4e deluxe edition, is SJ still producing these?

Happy Birthday GURPS!

I remember when my wife went in Bordeaux for her job and bought the Basic Set for me ... I just moved from the third to the fourth edition thanks to GURPS Lite, published in july 2004. I still have those two books just behind me, at my finger tips and read through them almost daily.

I was a big fan of GURPS 3E at the time (still am) and I bought GURPS 4E as soon as I could. I must have been very busy at the time because before I could get to it, it was already the second printing. Or maybe it simply took a while to get to my home town in Canada?

In any case to this day I still have 150ish GURPS 3E and 60ish GURPS 4E books on my shelves so needless to say, I love GURPS!

It's not in Warehouse 23, so you can assume not. I think it was a limited-run special thing when the new edition was launched.

There was also an unfortunate issue with binding quality on early copies - presumably the first printing. (Pages quickly fell out.) So many first printing copies may even have been recalled before they reached non-US distribution.
