[Triplanetary] numbered hexes?
After receiving my copy of the game, and looking at the map, I realized I had a suggestion for future use -- numbering the hexes on the map.
Having numbered hexes would be invaluable for long-term campaigns, when you'd need to store the game board between sessions, or for GM-run "secret movement" play. Hypothetically speaking, how difficult would it be to get a (legitimate and official, of course) PDF or printed poster for the map, with numbered hexes? If the game sells well, could this alternate printing of the map be considered as a possible supplement? Just wondering. Thanks! Franklin

Nontrivial, I fear.

I wish I'd've thought of this during the Kickstarter campaign, so it could have been considered during your production run. :-(
On a related tangent: If I recall correctly, you mentioned elsewhere that we customers are encouraged to come up with our own custom maps. Presuming one could find an appropriate cartography program, would other players welcome such a PDF (i.e. a numbered-hex version of the standard map)? (Naturally, I presume this, or any other fan-created variant map, would need to include the appropriate disclaimers and acknowledgements on the map.) Thanks, Franklin

Re: [Triplanetary] numbered hexes?
A solution is to agree to a STANDARD number system. For example, Avalon Hill's Afrika Korps has letters for the rows and a numbers for the columns, along the hexgrain -- if that is the correct term. Where the letter's row and number column intersects that's the hex. Saves on writing on each hex.

The obvious solution is to take a picture or pictures of the board.

One can write on the board; one can mark locations and vectors.
(In a similar vein: This is why long-service _Car Wars_ players laminated their mapsheets.)

Re: [Triplanetary] numbered hexes?
OK, let's see what people can agree on. There are two hex numbering systems I know about, and this is the more usual one:
https://i.stack.imgur.com/GSVWK.png (The other one has the first two digits as here, but the last two assigned along the diagonal hex rows. It's harder to do calculations on that.) Because the Triplanetary map is conventionally aligned with the hex points up/down, I propose that the bottom left hex should be 0101; the hex to the right of it 0201; the hex above them both 0102; and so on. By my reckoning this puts Venus at 1009, Mercury at 1810, and Sol at 1613. If other people agree with me, that's a good start. sgbeal, it seems to me there's an opportunity here for your SVG map kit…
